Democrats are such hypocrites. They're proposing to do this now, with government-run healthcare which most Americans oppose. Listen to their tune from just a few years ago. Hypocrites!

Reconciliation is NOT the nuclear option. They are two separate things. The nuclear option was threatened by Republicans to stop Democratic filibusters during the Bush administration. In the nuclear option, the idea is for the chair and a majority of the Senate to declare the filibuster of judicial nominees unconstitutional through a point of order. It is not provided for in the Senate rules. Reconciliation is provided for in the rules and was used by the Republicans to pass the Bush tax cuts.

Hopefully, they will put the highly popular public option back in the bill after the Republicans refuse to be bi-partisan.

I think you are living in another universe. The people I talk to and the radio talk-show hosts all seem to say the same thing -- "I like my insurance as it is, and the public option will take it away". That doesn't sound like "highly popular" to me.

The problem with the "discussions" taking place in Congress and the Senate is that the Democrats are rejecting anything proposed by Republicans, without any debate! The plan being proposed by Obama for discussion on Feb 25 is the same old junk already proposed, and he has stated that the Republicans can "take it or leave it". There is no option of re-opening healthcare reform for different options -- only the existing proposed laws will be discussed.

Tell me one thing -- how can there be "discussion" if one side refuses to allow the other side to say anything?

I am for health care reform, but I reject the "public option". Instead, I have suggested tort reform (to limit punitive damage awards that will only pay lawyers fees-- this would decrease doctor's malpractice insurance costs and therefore reduce medical costs), and the ability to purchase health insurance across state lines (currently illegal, as set up by the Democrats in my state). There are other ideas out there that the Democrat leadership have rejected. Why not consider these ideas?

Why are we throwing out the insurance plans that 85% of Americans are using, in order to force the other 15% into a "public option" insurance that will hurt/destroy the economy?

Paul, what country are you living in? How about substantiating this pronouncement.

Neither side has the interests of the American people at heart. If one side out of power, they will use the same exact stalling and delay tactics as the other side when they are out of power. To say one side is better than the other represents a total misunderstanding of the Constitution. Both sides trash the Constitution daily and for those that give the false impression that (in this case), the Republicans are doing the American people justice is an idea totally without merit. What did they do from 2001-2009 to show they were servants of the people, or conservative, or Constitutionalists? Answer: NOTHING.

The fact is the Congress is disfunctional, regardless of who controls it. This Novemeber, every incumbent needs to be voted out, and the replacement needs to be someone who is a servant, who is a conservative, and who will uphold the Constitution. That means no Democrats or Republicans. If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

    I agree with that!

I think we need to fight against the health care legislation with whomever will line up against.

I think it was a typo. He meant to write "highly unpopular". That's the word on the street.

The majority of Americans don't have a clue what's going on and are apathetic about their government because they don't believe its working for them any more. They've resigned themselves to consider it an aggravating leech that thrives off their own blood. They've also concluded that since it seems impossible to change it - to rid themselves of the leech - then they just what to get whatever they can from it. They've also come to expect that every problem faced by man must be and can be solved by the federal government. They've given up on managing their own affairs and turned it all over to a bunch of expensive and inefficient "mutual fund managers". I don't think the polls reflect this but I think it's the truth!

Sure when the polls are skewed:

"The second-ranking House Republican pointed out on Wednesday morning however, that the question was misleading because it assumes that those who have health insurance through an employer would get to keep it.

Republicans believe that if the government creates a public option, it will compete unfairly with private companies and drive many out of business.

Cantor said there is a much different result when people are asked "would you support a public plan that would replace your healthcare?"

In fact, he has seen polling data that shows "over 61 percent of Americans reject this notion of a public option."

Of course one has to go back to last year to find those skewed polls.

    ????????????????????????????
    ????????????????????????????

People do want health care reform.....
Health care reform and public options ARE NOT THE SAME THING.
When the stupidity of our citizen representatives, and, for that matter, ...... a few of our citizens, actually think these are one and the same..... most of us would rather take our chances without any reform than be forced into a program which is designed to kill all private insurance and plans and choice to force us all into the one size fits all public option and control of government!

Why not encourage the insurance industry to offer catastrophic permanent life coverage plans to cover major accidents and health events.... and leave the rest to us? Most of us would still seek a doctor when necessary, but when medicine is no longer aimed at cures, but alleviating symptoms, what good is it to run to the doctor 5x a year as opposed to 1x a year.... just because the insurance will pay when nothing is done about prevention or cure? The current system encourages use and abuse for treatment of minor issues.... and rewards people to stay ignorant and passive regarding their most precious resource.... their health. If people really are too stupid to take care of their health then how come so many who have lived into the 80's and 90's during the 50's, 60's and 1970's didn't die sooner because so many of them never saw a doctor unless they had a tumor, a bone break or major event like a stroke or heart attack? Also, during that same period of time, doctors did less about writing prescriptions and often encouraged the good healthy things like rest, or easy home therapies, change in diets more agreeable to the individual. They, themselves, often depended as much upon their own experience about what they saw work and what didn't instead of blindly accepting that something worked because of a report... which did not duplicate in success in their own practice of use. Our doctors treat according to what they are taught, and are taught by the very health industry which prospers in sick care instead of wellness care!

What we don't want is government controlled health care or public options which treat us like children, with no dignity or sense to choose for ourselves or which deny us and/or our doctors and health care providers control and mastery geared to the unique needs of each individual receiving advice and treatment. We want is the freedom to choose our doctors and health consultants, to decide what is and is not done to our bodies, to be correctly informed and not hyped up over some promotion of a new thing with hidden side effects, or coerced into a standard 'one size fits all' when its not working for us as unique individuals, and the freedom to learn to trust our own instincts as opposed to encouragement towards hypochondria and medication interference in normal body discomforts and adjustments which teach us to care for ourselves.

I heard a veternarian once interviewed say..... most diseases in animals which parallel those similar in man, are treated like diseases of toxicity or malnutrition or chemical imbalances in animals with a purpose to a cure because folks in animal husbandry with farm animals couldn't afford vets who don't practice cure as the intention of treatment. Why are we treated to be so 'chronic' in our every change of condition by our own doctors? Shouldn't they also be helping us to return to the balance which maintains our health instead of just promoting our prolonged survival in illness?
