Too bad he is also going to send a mixed message and reward illegal behavior by granting amnesty.

With a Knick Knack paddy wack throw the dog a bone...

    1. President Bush stated that border security is urgent. Why has it taken four years and eight months after the 9/11 attacks to decide that border security is urgent?

    2. President Bush can dress it up all he wants but to give citizenship to illegal aliens already in our country is an amnesty program and the Congress should oppose such an idea.

    3. Adding 6,000 National Guard troops to give help in the background to 12,000 overworked Border Patrol agents to stop 3,000,000 illegal aliens that cross our borders each year is hardly worthy of being called a "secure our borders" policy.

    4. I noticed that President Bush did not mention coming down hard on those who employ illegal aliens.

What a shame, I missed the speech. The book on predestination proved more interesting. To tell the truth, I was done before the end of the speech, but flipped the TV to a rerun of Mr ED. That made a lot more sense.

    Talks a good talk...

But, the message to Vincente Fox that we weren't militarizing our borders says it all...

    Placate, Placate, Placate...

Vincente Fox is our enemy as much as China, N. Korea and Iran...

Perhaps more so because he already has several million operatives in country waiting to do his bidding...

    And, 'amnesty'????

Yeah make all these operatives legal so we lose track of them and make them the ultimate sleeper agents!

    Bah Humbug!

Bush has to do something. He's getting kicked around from both sides because of his dithering.

    At least it's something.

More window dressing to up his poll numbers it seems to me. Probably better than nothing but he should have done something 4 years ago.

    Scenario:

Deploy National Guard to administrative tasks along the border with Mexico, as a political move.

After a few months, replace Guard with no-bid contractors from Haliburton.

Cheney & Company get more of our tax dollars for hunting ammo.

Way too little, way too late. We're stuck with 'em now, so, we should have to deal with 'em. and try to win them to Jesus! [IMG]

If one of the National Guardsmen engages a trespasser and actually shoots him? International incident and can be considered an act of war.

I see a long fence, long before any NG stand posts every 20 feet, just so you border security fans in Arkansas can sleep better at night.

I can't think of a more noble duty for our national guard troops--protecting the border.

I don't want 'em shooting crossers on sight, but I do hope that they're not hamstrung by so many regulations that they become pure window dressing.
