Branson

    Wife wants to go (me? not so much) Two 60-somethings semi-adults. We have open travel windows March 2011 or September/October 2011. Tons of google ideas but I like real-life input from cyber-family.

    1. Which would be better (weather, lack of crowds)?

    2. Best activities? (train, boat, theme parks catering to adults - don't need Disney stuff)

    3. Best shows?

    4. Best hotels?

    5. Best restaurants?

    6. Best travel? (into Springfield? limited into Branson?)

    7. Best car rental

    We love Branson and go at least twice a year. March would definitely have smaller crowds because lots of things are not open then. Although a fair amount is all year round.
    September/October is a very busy time, but the weather is great.
    We actually spend most of our time at Silver Dollar City, a wonderful theme park that has a lot to do besides roller coasters (it has those too). In the fall, there is a major craft exhibition for several weeks. It is themed as an 1880's frontier village with glassblowers, blacksmith, lye soap maker, etc. Very family-friendly with a lot of overt Christian entertainment.

    1. Which would be better (weather, lack of crowds)? Weather: September. Lack of crowds? When nothing is open. I went one summer in July for a week, but it wasn't that bad. But we really weren't there for the entertainment--we were doing Back Yard Bible Clubs.

    2. Best activities? (train, boat, theme parks catering to adults - don't need Disney stuff) SHepherd of the hills was great. I laughed hard!! It was theatre, but I was too entertained by the bad timing! Good show, though, and the stuff around it. Shoji Tabuchi if he is still there. We played in the river where we stayed.

    4. Best hotels? I can't remember. Too long ago. We also stayed in a cabin on a river.

    5. Best restaurants?

    6. Best travel? (into Springfield? limited into Branson?) We drove.

    We love what we have experienced of Branson too. We have visited briefly a couple of times and on both occassions we stayed at the Econolodge. We may be there later this year when we come over for Thanksgiving. I don't know what is available there at the moment with regards to entertainment but we have enjoyed the shopping there.

    Wife Janice and I enjoyed the Dixie Stampede, Jim Stafford and Yanoff Smirnoff. All were clean, family oriented shows, and a lot of fun.

    Chateau on the Lake is a phenomenal hotel, but it's pricey. I went there with my wife on our anniversary one year.

    Also, if one is amenable to a wine tasting, then I suggest http://www.stonehillwinery.com/. It has free tours and wine tastings.
