Do not at the risk of total disaster allow yourself to be talked into a Payroll Debit Card or any other debit card unless it's issued through your local bank.

When you put your card in an ATM you are at the mercy of the issuing card company. If your money comes out, fine and dandy. If it doesn't then you could be entering the world of FINANCIAL MADNESS AND NIGHTMARE.

This happened to our grandson who lives with us on Aug 31. He tried to withdraw $100 from his account using his payroll debit card that was issued to him from Pizza Hut through a third party. The ATM did not give him any money but the receipt that came out showed the $100 had been deducted from his account.

Today is Sep 18 and he still does not have his $100! Now another point. He's a 16 year old kid and the issuing debit card company will not talk to anyone except him about the issue.

I am torqued to say the least:BangHead:

Yes. Apparently the company he works for asked him if he had a bank account and when he told them no they automatically set him up with this outfit.

At least he got a receipt.

There is a money machine where I work and about 95% of the time we get no receipt.

He should contact the ACLU. The point of "legal tender" is that people can demand to be paid in it.

Latest episode. Today the company sent a text message to my grandson's phone telling him that he had his money that he had not received back in his account. We then went to the bank and tried to get the balance out of an ATM machine and got back an "invalid card message".

When he called the debit card company they told him there was a hold on his card until they received a notarized copy of his id. He sent that in last week. Today he asked them to send the check to him at his home address and of course they refused telling him they had to have that notarized copy of the id before they could take the hold off the account.

Apparently all this junk about the notarized ID came about when I as his legal guardian (he's 16) tried to call the company on his behalf and get this settled and they decided that an unauthorized person was trying to get his money.

If we ever get the money back I will be surprised.

Still no money. But the account is closed and a check is supposed to be in the mail.

Maybe I am missing something but wouldn't it be easier for him to just open up a bank account?

We have done that after the fact and his paycheck now is directly deposited in a local bank.

We encouraged him to do it before hand but 16 year olds are stupid and don't listen to adult advice!!!

Haha, yeah, maybe now that lesson has been learned he will consider your future advice more closely. We can only hope.

Read someplace (www.alternet.org ?) That Social Security is also going to stop writing checks but demand that every person have a bank account. If not, SS will issue some kind of phony debit card and send the money there. The person will only get one free withdrawal a month - another way to screw ignorant poor people.

Your grandson should write his state attorney general and explain how his wages are not being paid.

We will certainly pursue that if the money is not forthcoming. Still waiting on day 38.

Don't they have to have an adult help/sign with this if they are under 18,

That was my question too. Apparently not if the Company wants to sign them up for their payroll debit cards.

I couldn't even get the debit card company to talk with me on the phone even though I am the boy's guardian. Something is wrong with this picture!!!
