Why doesn't she go speak at Rev. Wright's church? :BangHead:

Is it that she's speaking at the church building or is it that she's addressing the congregation? I'm not sure but many churches will allow use of their facilities for public things. Not sure I agree with it but that might be the case here.

    A lady addressing the congregation?

    Parish the thought!

From the church's website (click the big "letsmove.gov" ad on front page):

The article said she would be speaking on a Wednesday, and that church members were being called about it.

Whatever happened to separation of church and state, or is that only when the politicians decide it's convenient?

I realize the "church" is only a building in this case, but I would have a serious problem with this. If she wants to have a gathering, let her go to the public area and do it. Let her find a high school auditorium, town hall, civic center, or other place for her press coverage.

Michelle Obama defends Super Bowl menu: Healthy eating about "moderation"
By Lynn Sweet on February 8, 2011 2:27 PM

WASHINGTON--First Lady Michelle Obama, discussing healthy eating the day before the first anniversary of her "Let's Move" anti-obesity campaign, defended the White House Super Bowl menu which included bratwurst, kielbasa, cheeseburgers
 and deep dish pizza.

The point is balance, not deprivation, Mrs. Obama said at Tuesday lunch with reporters who cover her East Wing. "I like to talk about my obsession with French fries because I don't want people to think that "Let's Move" is about complete, utter deprivation. It is about moderation and real life changes and ideas that really work for families, today's families too."

During the year of her "Let's Move" healthy eating and exercise drive, Mrs. Obama has never said people should quit junk food--just don't eat it all the time."I think I've always been very consistent on that front because that's how I live my life. "I mean, It's about balance. It's always about balance. I felt As a mother if somebody came and said 'you can never have a hot dog' or serve your child a slice of pizza, we'd never get a handle on this issue cause I think that's sometimes how people feel, that's it's all or nothing.

It is not necessary or "realistic" to eat healthy food every day and Super Bowl Sunday is a day made for an exception, Mrs. Obama said.

"I don't even know what you'd have other than some hot dogs and some burgers for a Super Bowl party. That's what Super Bowl is, so the message has always been about balance."

As for that balance, "As I tell my kids, if you eat at every meal than when you're out with your friends on a weekend and you have pizza and ice cream for the entire weekend, you'll still be ok. The problem is when that fun stuff becomes the habit and I think that's what's happened in our culture. Fast food has become the everyday meal and what pediatricians will tell you, that's causing some huge health issues."

I wonder how many billions of tax dollars are being spent for Michelle My Belle's pet project, again, they think we are all idiots. Personally, I could use some deprivation from this whole crazy administration.

If Mrs. Bush had spoken at a church meeting . . . THAT would have been a wonderful use of public funds.

What ever happened to the right to privacy? Something like, "It's my body, the government can't tell me what to do with it." Or is that only applicable if we want to kill a baby?

To be fair (I don't like M.O., but I don't think Jerome was fair)...just because someone's speaking at a church does not mean "they're doing the preaching."

    If I'm wrong, correct me.

Once again...I'm absolutely not a fan of Michelle Obama. I think she's anti-freedom; she's pro-abortion; and she hasn't a clue regarding what the concept of "self-reliance" entails. However, if we're going to slam her (and NorthPoint), let's make sure our facts are in order.

After reconsidering, my "to be fair" comment, wasn't.

Jerome was quoting another person, not making that point himself. Had HE made that point, my assertion would have been valid. As it were, I was incorrect and hasty.

    My apologies, Jerome.

I still don't have a problem extending a speaking invitation to a President or First Lady...but there are stipulations (forgive me...there may be more, but these immediately come to mind):
    • This is a speech, not a sermon. I would not have BO or MO there to lead on Sunday AM Worship...but I might have a special gathering for them. You can quote Scripture. You can be passionate. You can evoke faith images. But I'm making it clear to my folks that this isn't a worship service...it's a chance for them to hear directly from their country's Presidents or First Ladies. But I'm making this distinction to the church beforehand.
    • (given to the church and the speaker): If I'm the pastor, then God has entrusted me with being the shepherd. Thus, I reserve the right to rebut any comments made by the President or First Lady. I pledge to them to be truthful, but respectful. However, when push comes to shove, I can not...and will not...sacrifice Biblical truth for political gain, nor do so out of "awe" or "reverence" for the office.
    • I expect to know a synopsis of what will be discussed. That is my responsibility as a church leader to guard the flock. Now...this does not mean they must agree with me. But I refuse to be ambushed by folks. If I am, I will immediately (in the presence of the church and speaker(s)), tell them.
    • (To the church, in advance): You have a twofold responsibility...One, to submit to authority that does not contradict God; and two, to pray for those over you. If you cannot do that, please do not attend this meeting. You are not in the right frame of mind to do so.
    • (personal): I really liked Ronald Reagan. I really am not fond of Barack Obama. But these principles apply, no matter which one would come. Actually, the chances of Reagan speaking at churches are extrordinarily slim. If he did, it is likely there would be other issues to deal with, being as he as of now is not currently living. :D :D But seriously...these principles apply, no matter if the leader is an arch-conservative, or a flaming liberal.
Your mileage may vary. Void where prohibited. Call your local County Extension Agent for more information.
