Last week, Mother Jones reported that masses of Tea Partiers would be bussed in by American Majority, a corporate-backed right-wing astro-turf operation, causing many progressive commenters to note the irony of the Tea Party's new-found devotion to Big Government. As it turned out, approximately 2,000 arrived -- along with Andrew Breitbart -- only to find themselves out-numbered by pro-union demonstrators by a ratio as high as 35 to 1.

Salty, do you know what the term "tea bagger" means? Why use it when it would seem that you are in favor of their position. (If you don't know, PM me and I'll explain it to you.)

Tea-Bagger a derogatory term used by Liberals and Progressives to demean and otherwise put down Tea Party Adherents.

I am not sure of the original useage or their meaning...

But, sand bagger, which means deception and deliberate hyperbole.

Or, a limp useless tea bag. If you are a tea drinker there are few things worse than foregtting to remove your tea bag in a timely manner after brewing...

At any rate, Tea Bagger is *not* a term of endearment...

I'll try to gingerly explain the term as used in today's slang -- and why it is so reprehensible when used to describe a political movement of people who assumed the name "Tea Party" to align themselves with the acts of history in the Boston Harbor. "Tea-bagging" is SNIP

 

The whole issue of unions is frustrating imo.

If there are no unions, employers have a long history (since the very beginning of paid labor) of mistreating and exploiting workers to their own profit as far as the law will allow, and farther.

If there are unions, they become business cliques, protectors of good-ol'-boy clubs, and reinforcers of nepotism. They arrogantly promote themselves at the cost of all others, exclude those without personal connections, and even try to prevent others from getting jobs. They've done more than the U.S. tax code to drive companies overseas, imho.

If there's a solution before Christ's coming, I don't know what it is. Maybe weaker unions, with by-law-unpaid leadership, forced to accept newly hired workers, with publicly elected mediators to resolve conflicts, etc.
