I'm from Southern, and Dispy is taught, but it is not held widely as THE system. Like was said above, it should be taught everywhere, but so should the other positions. To single out one position and teach that exclusively is fundamentalistic and at the end of the day not the greatest education one might get.

I , not being much of a Dispy, was not made unwelcome by the Western faculty, but was laughed at in class once by students for expressing the opinion that Christ's Gospel was Paul's as well. As Paul says in Gal 1:6,7 "there are many real Gospels." "Silly me!

All I can contribute to this thread is a question.

What is the difference between the old-time Dispies and the Progressive Dispies?

    Why does it matter?

May I interject a question into the discussion?

Why does it matter concerning dispensationalism?

The reason I ask is this: Christ is coming again, bodily, to redeem His Church and to "judge the quick and the dead!"

The ways, the means, the times cannot be known, but the "seasons" can be discerned. I would like to see a discussion on "Why it matters?" Seems to me if we employed Al Mohler's "Theological Triage," most of the discussions of Dispensationalism would go away, instead of the elevation secondary or tertiary issues to the level of the Gospel itself.

Just my thoughts and I know it will make some angry. Because some use dispensationalism as a touchstone of orthodoxy. And for this I am sad.

Let me ask one question and see how you feel about it. Will Christ return twice, once in the air for His bride the church and once to conquer the gentile nations and set up His kingdom for 1000 years? What does scripture show?

    Theology flavoring our exegesis?

    My Dear Brother,

I am sorry if I have offended you, especially if you have taken the above questions personally. It seems that many of the dispensationalists that I know or have known take the whole "rapture question" and "the chain of events" around Christ's return so very, very personally if you disagree with them in the slightest way.

Whereas, I try not to concern myself with His return. Only that I want "to watch and pray" that I may be found faithful when he returns. I am not concerned with the mechanics as much as I am with the Gospel that gets us all "in the Kingdom;" and then personally living out that Gospel.

It seems as if you and I may suffer from the same malady? We have brought our theology to the text and have allowed it to color or flavor our exegesis. And I am not sure "how I feel" really matters, does it?

I confess this on my own behalf. I cannot confess it, however, for you.

I apologize if I have touched a sensitive nerve in any way. I am a doctor, but not the kind that can treat a sensitive nerve from let's say an out of joint tooth.

    "That is all!" :BangHead:

I was not being sensitive nor am I offended I really wanted an anaswer to the question before I answered yours. I can't give you a good scripturally based answer until I know where you are coming from I asked because I need to know how to term my answer so I don't offend you in some form. The basis of discussion is to know how the other person feels about the subject and try to mold an answer that will truly answer the question. Make sense I hope so. I do that with witnessing and visiting, you need to get to know peoples thoughts and how they feel about things in order to reach them for God. Same applies to doctrinal discussions.

Hope I didn't offend you and sorry you got the wrong impression about my question.

    A Dispensational Seminary

I know this is a post to a very old thread, but I'm new here. Calvary Theological Seminary www.calvary.edu lists as one of its distinctives Normative Dispensationalism. Calvary is a non-denominational Seminary. Statement of faith can be found on website.

Nearly four years ago, Baptist Press said nearly all Southern Baptist colleges and seminaries teach dispensationalism of one sort or another.
