I'm helping my mom make a quilt for my uncle.
Its my first quilt and its coming out really nice.
    I'm really enjoying quilting.

I support two mission camps and I'm thinking of making them some quilts. Maybe 10 a piece. I'm gonna see if they have a need for them. Mom likes to help were there's a need and with camps they surely have a need.

Are there any other quilters on the board?

    Hi Jeanne,
Would love to try quilting.......looks too time consuming to me, I like to crochet though.

I crochet too. One of my friends is pregnate and I'm gonna crochet her some blankets and booties and little outfits. I love to crochet I can whip a baby blanket out in two days.
Mom wants us to make some blankets and baby bonnets for the hospitals for the premies. My son was a premie and I have a soft spot for babies anyway.

I, too, crochet; but only in the winter months. It's just too hot in the summer, especially when you have a half-done afghan laying on your lap! If I feel like crocheting in the summer, I stick to doilies.

I also paint plaster crafts. I have my yard decorated with them and I paint smaller things for the grandkids (mostly sports things) or some animal that they are collecting.

My other hobby is ebaying. I sell things there that I would ordinarily sell at a garage sale; but I also buy the grandkids birthday presents there....really saves on the pocketbook!

On Sunday after coffee hour (which was a gala repast of leftovers from Saturday night's Sukiyaki Dinner) Paula [my fiancée] and I went down to the Fabric Outlet Store at Pacific Iron & Metal and spent several hours tying quilts for the Linus Project.

I have never quilted before, and I was the only male participant (maybe ten women). Between Paula and me we got three quilts done.

So if any of you have any menfolk lying around the house, try getting them involved in quilting.

Sewing is one of my passions. I have made about 15 quilts so far. Most baby size. I have given most of them away. I am not very good at it yet, although my husband says I am. I think he is just trying to encourage me.

I have mostly stuck with four patch or nine patch quilts and tied them. I have done two by hand quilting them. I look forward to trying it on the machine. I just got a new machine that is a patchwork edition, so this should be fun.

I just finished my first raggy denim quilt, my husband likes it but I don't. I critique my work alot, I want to get really good at it, so I try to sew any chance I get.

I just noticed this thread, and thought I'd get in on it. [IMG]

I've been sewing for about 7 years, and I'm going to start a quilt here pretty soon. (After I get my new sewing machine!)

I also crochet, but it usually takes me forever to finish something. Like, I'll work for 2 days on an afghan, get it about 1/2 done, and then put it aside, and I won't finish it for 6 months!

I also do plastic canvas stuff.. tissue boxes, and such. And cross-stitch.

And I have the same problem with not finishing stuff in all my crafts except sewing.

Right now, I'm plastic canvassing a welcome sign, working on a doll/pillowcase in cross-stitch, and I'm working on 2 afghans..

But I sewed 6 months worth of clothes while my sister-in-law was pregnant with my neice.. go figure. [IMG]

I like to crochet and do counted cross stitch. I used to do some word-working (i.e. tole painting on wooden shapes. I sew but am not really good at it. I have sewn skirts and jumpers, but don't do button holes. I dabbled in ceramics for a few years. I loved it, but ran out people to give things to! LOL I am trying to get back into ceramics so that I can decorate my many flower beds and vegetable garden. I also used to paint (landscapes, seascapes, geese). I haven't done that in over 10 years though.

My crocheting grows pretty fast. I won't knit because that goes entirely too slow for me.

I've heard of these quilts, and they sound like they would be so comfy! Are there instructions somewhere that I could look at?

    Susan,
It was not that hard just bulky going through the machine. I used these directions, but instead of making small squares I made long strips for my large bed. www.gloryquilts.com Look for online denim chenille blanket class. Hope this is helpful to you.

Thank you so much for the link, HCL. I found a lot to interest me; I'll spend lots of time just browsing and hopefully make one of those quilts. I loved it!
