A necessary component of watching Dr Who is the suspension of disbelief, and I think that that's the best that can be done with the Pete/ Rose rescue scene.

The spin-off series, Torchwood, starring Captain Jack, premiers over here next week. From what I can tell from the few trailers, it looks like an updated British version of The X-Files, but we'll see...

Very true, and it's not like that little bit ruined the story for me. I'm glad that Rose didn't get sucked into the Void and I'm glad they didn't have her break character. I have no way of knowing this, but I wonder if the writers didn't initially just have Rose stay with her mom and Billie protested, rightly saying that Rose would never choose her mom over the Doctor. I don't think there was any other way to separate the 2 without Rose dying.

I don't think that anybody truly knows what would be considered canon and what isn't in the Dr. Who universe. This isn't like George Lucas, who has, as I understand it, approves every fictional book released about the Star Wars universe, thus making them canonical.

I'm pretty sure the same can't be said about Dr. Who because there are some books that are outright contradictions to other books and events in the Who universe. Sometimes, I have to tell myself that it's just a show and that I should really just relax. :wavey:

George isn't as great with canon as he likes to think he is...HAN SHOOTS FIRST! :D

Couldn't find the other Who plot-hole black hole page I was reading a while ago, but surfed across this one ...now I have a headache :BangHead: Some of the goofs I missed in recent episodes make me wonder if I watched them at all  :)

Continuing to hijack the thread I started:

I've never seen the Special Edition of Star Wars, so I didn't know what people were talking about with the phrase "Han shoots first." Till now. And I don't understand why Lucas changed it in the SE anyway.

Huh? It's not like Solo did it indiscriminately, he did it because Greedo would have killed him. Which is worse, to have the bounty hunter look like a fool because he misses at point blank range, or to have Solo pretty much stay in character because he shoots Greedo before Greedo shoots him? I prefer option #2.

    Returning to Doctor Who:

I think it's weird that I do this, but I'll miss most goofs in a show, but in a serial type of show like Doctor Who, I'll almost always catch the continuity problems.

    I think it's called being a dedicated fan :)

....and I'm not going to ask what anyone else calls it

I made this comment at the beginning of the thread and wanted to touch on it today. I was reading the synopsis of "Spearhead from Space" in the Doctor Who Reference Guide and found this statement.

Evidently, the entirety of the Nestene Consciousness didn't come to Earth in "Spearhead from Space" as I originally thought. So, no continuity problem in this regard.

    Tennant named best Who....
    BY WHO? :tonofbricks:

On his performance so far he gets 4th on my list behind Eccleston, Tom Baker, & Pertwee. If I could catch a few episodes of Hartnell & Troughton he might even slip further.

I can understand Rose getting ahead of Sarah Jane, if she stayed another season she might have swapped with her on my list too.

I've got Tennant 3rd on my list because I'm not a big fan of Pertwee. Although I don't agree that Tennant is better, I think I understand part of why it's being said.

Tennant has shown a larger emotional range than TBaker, mostly because the story allowed him to do so. We've never seen the Doctor show the kind of emotion as he did in the last scene with Rose in "Doomsday". Not even when that sniveling little whiner Adric died.

When I decide where they land on my list of best Doctors, I have to consider the stories they had. Colin Baker proved that a bad script cannot consistently be overcome by a good actor. Peri was not a good companion, but she had that same bad script as well. This is also why Eccleston really gives T Baker a run for his money at the top of the list. Eccleston didn't have a single bad story, while both TBaker (Invasion of Time) and DTennant (Love&Monsters) did. (BTW that wretched Love&Monsters is up this Friday on SciFi. :( )

As far as companions, I think Rose does top Sarah Jane for me. She was awesome in The Satan Pit. BTW, who are your Top 5 companions? Mine are Rose, Sarah Jane, Romana #1, Ace, and Captain Jack.

Oh, and I was watching the last episode of "Enlightenment" the other day. I don't understand why somebody didn't hand Janet Fielding (she played Tegan Jovanka) some onions and have her work up some tears when she thought that the Doctor and Turlough had been killed. I don't think she shed any tears when Adric died either. You can't tell me that somebody as fiery as she was wouldn't have bawled her eyes out when she thought, or knew, that her friends were dead.

I haven't seen enough of Hartnell or Troughton's work to make any kind of judgment about those guys either. I think it's worthwhile to note that they were strong enough to carry the show during the early years. Troughton, in particular, had a tough job to be the Doctor after Hartnell defined the role as the first one.

Just saw a year old story on web about an.... "inappropriate".... movie (released straight to brown paper bag...*cough*) made with Daleks. Thankfully BBC & Terry Nation's estate pulled the plug VERY quickly.

Here is something else that would give anyone nightmares (if they could get to sleep at all....)

cc, top 5 companions? hmmmmm.....I know my top 3 in order would be Sarah Jane (just), Rose, & K9 :)smilewinkgrin:), with maybe Jo Grant & Leela fighting over 4th and 5th places. (I always enjoyed Leela grabbing her knife and being just about to turn the villain-of-the-week into soup-of-the-day when the Doctor would settle things down :))

It has to be pointed out that Tennant does have an advantage in that he is the present incumbent of the role. My order would have been: Tom Baker, Eccleston and then Tennant. Companions: Rose, Sarah Jane, Leela, Romana I and Jo Grant. Liz Shaw was also quite sexy in a 'posh-totty' sort of way IMO:smilewinkgrin: K9 (more camp than a boy scout jamboree), Kameleon (who?), Adric (whinger) and Turlough (ginger whinger) are about -348 on my list

You're not the only one who liked Liz.

If we're going for Top 5 Worst Companions, Peri lands at the top of that list. Adric wasn't half the whiner that Peri was.

Ok, the first one really didn't make me cry.

However, the 2nd one, with that wretched song, gave me diabetes. :wavey:

Excellent, glad to have a new Whovian on the board. :wavey:

Check out the Doctor Who Reference Guide as well as the sites Pete linked. You can easily get overloaded there too.

Unfortunately for us here in the states, we won't see "Runaway Bride" until Sci-Fi airs it, and the entire season, beginning next September. :tear:
