Fair enough if that is your view - but I am convinced that the GOP does not really want to change. Their record of recent nominees bears that out. Ryan is too much of a pot stirrer for anyone to be comfortable. If Romney gets in he doesn't need that kind of trouble maker in the House.

Quite the broad brush. Broad brush's diminish credibility. And we need to remember that nominee's have to want to be nominee's. We cannot know what Romney will need in the house. And I disagree he is a pot stirrer. No real evidence for that.

Fair enough - our opinions differ. I guess all we can do is wait and see how it pans out.

This'll be good. We have a closet muslim vs a Mormon and RC. That's a balanced ticket, per Archie Bunker.

I am glad for a pot stirrer - that was a compliment.

The House needs pot stirring as does the Senate and the White House and even the Supreme Court. Those folks are way to comfortable where they are.

Will be sad if he is lost to whatever it is that a vice-president does beside break tie votes in the Senate.

I didn't think it was a negative. I just disagree. That implies intent and I do not believe he has ever had that intention. He has just stood strongly and openly for what is right and true.

Nope, gonna hafta disagree here. What they need is a good brooming. Swept completely out of DC. These people, BOTH dems and reps, are the problem, and not the solution. Both got us in this mess to begin with.

But that's not going to happen - that's why we need good folks like Ryan in the House of Representatives instead of quietly tucked away on 34th and Massachusetts where he can't do anything of substance.

Assuming they win the election, he is only a heart-beat away from the presidency. I realize that is a slim chance- so very slim. But who else would you have preferred? Rubio?

I think so. I like Ryan a lot better, partly because he is in the House where the money is spent.

Admittedly vice-presidents who have ascended by death of the president have fared somewhat better in history, but that is an awful thing to hope for.

    Of course they don't.

That's what gave rise to the TEA Party and the establishment republicans being forced to pay attention to them.

So what better way to get rid of someone like Rep Ryan than tuck him away as vice-president?

Sorry. I'm not much of a CT.

And you're not giving Ryan much credit for being smart enough to plan his own future. He could have said NO. I believe he would have, if he thought it was a career killing move. I'm sure he sees it as an opportunity.

I agree with that. He is being kept under wraps. It must be hard to muster the moral courage to refuse the position of V.P..

You have already been proven wrong on Ryan. Romney is going one direction and Ryan is going another and they are campaigning separately and Ryan is as loud and boisterous as ever.

Campaigning is one thing - making changes in Washington is quite another. He can't get tucked away on 34th and Massachusetts until he gets elected.

Clearly we are not going to come to a consensus, sadly we won't know which of us is correct for several years.

It is a tough situation for anyone. If you don't play ball now they may blackball you forever. That is part of the problem with the Republicrat system - if you don't play by their rules you are doomed because there is no place else to go.

If President Obama is re-elected I would hope that Rep Ryan starts immediately to form a viable third party for 2016. I would like to see him and several like minded members of Congress leave their parties for this third party so the ball is rolling for 2014.

I have hopes that Ryan or someone like him can be the force to really shake things up.

It won't happen from the vice-president's office.
