    I'm posting this query here because this is of an informational nature and related to preserving Baptist history. I hope this is the best spot.

    I have been gathering a collection of hymns that mention Jesus washing His disciples' feet, his exhortation to wash one another's feet, and so forth. In addition to this I am interested in hymns that are used in connection with washing the saint's feet in church. Some of these are related for reasons other than actually mentioned feet washing in the hymn. For those of you who do practice feet washing, would you share what songs you might sing, if any, and in what relation to the service -- e.g. before, during, after?

    Thanks so much.

    We usually lined out "Brethren We Have Met Again" at our feet washing services at my old home church. That was a staple there.

    Which church was that? Was it lined before the feet washing?

    My home church was South Center United Baptist in Hamlet, IN. That song was usually sung to start the service, whether it the regular service or feet washing. We would also line songs during communion and feet washing.

    Brother, when I wrote that, I was really thinking association but said church. I probably should remember what your home association was, but forgot. What hymnal or hymn book did y'all use?

    I grew up in the Ancient Christian Association. We used the New Baptist Song Book alot, plus the Sweet Songster and Thomas Hymnal.

    Are these in your collection yet?

    #609, Baptist Hymn and Tune Book (1858)

    As once the Saviour took His seat—
    Attracted by His fame,
    And lowly bending at His feet,
    An humble suppliant came.

    Ashamed to lift her streaming eyes
    His holy glance to meet,
    She poured her costly sacrifice
    Upon the Saviour's feet.

    Oppressed with sin and sorrow's weight,
    And sinking in despair,
    With tears she washed His sacred feet,
    And wiped them with her hair.

    "Depart in peace," the Saviour said,
    "Thy sins are all forgiven!"
    The trembling sinner raised her head,
    In peaceful hope of heaven.

    #352 The Baptist Praise Book (1872) ed. Basil Manly Jr. et al

    ". . .
    Come, old and young, come all mankind,
    And bathe those feet in tears.

    Come, fall before his cross,
    Who shed for us his blood;
    Who died, the victim of pure love,
    To make us sons of God."

    #41 Spurgeon's Our Own Hymn-Book (1870)

    Jesus, though Thy head is crown'd,
    Crown'd with loftiest majesty,
    In Thy members Thou art found,
    Plunged in deepest poverty.

    Happy they who wash Thy feet,
    Visit Thee in Thy distress!
    Honour great, and labour sweet
    For Thy sake the saints to bless!

    They who feed Thy sick and faint
    For Thyself a banquet find;
    They who clothe the naked saint
    Round Thy loins the raiment bind.

    #518 Spurgeon's Interpreter Hymn Book (1874)

    Love and grief my heart dividing,
    With my tears his feet I'll bathe,
    Constant still in faith abiding,
    Life deriving from his death.

    Here it is I find my heaven,
    While upon the cross I gaze.
    Love I much? I've more forgiven;
    I'm a miracle of grace.

    Enjoyed the hymns you posted, Jerome. Thanks. I think Beddome has a lot of good hymns that we miss out one.
