ONLY thing that I could do, as jesus said, have to receive/believe in the Son of God, Himself, and receive eternal life in His name!

So if that's all there is to it, the young man in Mk 10 who RAN to Christ, KNEELED before Him, and addressed Him with DIVINE RESPECT was definitely rewarded with eternal life, right?

Did he believe? What did Jesus say about his "belief"?

'What must I do to inherit eternal life?'
Christ doesn't even mention belief in His answer to the young man.

    Here is a LUKE reference

    Luke 10:25-28

    King James Version (KJV)

25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

26 He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?

27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live

    It doesn't stop there:

Luke 10:29 But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

"Unless your righteousness exceed the righteousness of the Pharisees you shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of God,"
--He justified himself, or demonstrated his own "self-righteousness."

Luke 10:36-37 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

having eternal life is now. Happens at conversion. Through faith only.

Inheriting eternal life happens "in the regeneration" and is for believers who have left all. See Matthew 19:28-29

The rich young ruler wasn't asking about conversion, he was asking about an inheritance.

Notice that Jesus asked him first why he called him good, was he really addressing him as being God?

And point of jesus was that this man valued earthly treasures beyond spiritual ones, and was not able/willing to receive Jesus as His Lord. as he hungered for material gain, to hold unto his own life/standing in life!

Really, he never was asking how to get saved, but how to get saved by his way!
