No need for a link here, because you've seen the news by now about Tony Stewart. Would somebody let me know when the adults are taking over here and telling Stewart he's not racing today?

    Jeff Gluck, Nascar reporter, tweeted:

Except the dead guy that Tony ran over, that is. What's going on here? Brian France just doesn't know what happened yet, right? Mike Helton is still asleep or something. This has to be a joke. They can't be serious about letting Tony race. Intent doesn't matter here. A kid is dead and Tony killed him. This is stunning.

Uh, the "kid" got out of his car in the middle of a race and walked out on a track where there was racing cars. This is no one's fault but his own. Nothing here to penalize Stewart about.

This is the most idiotic thing I've ever read on this site.

    Blaming the victim?

Did you actually watch the video? Did you see that the kid didn't actually step in front of the car? Did you see that he got with the right rear tire and got pulled under it? Do you realize these cars don't drive themselves?

Thanks for your "insight", but the adults are talking now.

I did see the video and he was out in the middle of the track. He walked out in the middle of the track.

Did you ge that. He walked out in the middle of the track.

He is a victim alright, of his own temper and idiocy.

You cannot walk out in the middle of a "race track" where cars are "racing" and expect to live to tell about it.

I saw the video several times.

I also saw a driver gun his engine and make the tires kick out and hit the driver that was on the track. Kevin Ward wasn't driving the car that hit him.

They were under caution, which means they weren't racing. Again, Kevin Ward wasn't driving the car that hit him.

Just had a press conference. Stewart won't drive today.

The guy making the statement said that Bruton Smith would be driving in his place, which I kind of doubt, but would be pretty interesting. My guess is that he meant to say Reagan Smith.

In any event, Mitch is right. While it's being considered a race related accident, the legal term for it would be death by misadventure. I don't mean to sound cruel before Ward's body is cold, but essentially, death by misadventure means you died as a result of your own stupidity, engaging in a foolish and dangerous act. Maybe if this twenty year old didn't see Winston Cup drivers (yeah, I know, but I'm old so sue me), including Tony Stewart running out onto the track, and doing this very thing, he might not have thought it was a good idea.

I saw the uncensored video two times, from two different angles and, while it's largely inconclusive, I believe from what I saw, that Stewart did try to avoid Ward, but that this was made difficult by the differences in the gear box, suspension, and steering of these cars.

It is the fault of the guy who got out of his car. Those cars were still moving quite fast, the track didn't look well lit. He should've stayed in his car and by not doing so he unnecessarily risked his life, and lost it.

When I was a kid, we used to go out to B.I.R. every Friday night (we knew many of the drivers) and I remember, back in turn three, just below the wall that separated the racetrack from the drive in picture show, it was very dark. I always wondered how that wasn't a big safety concern.

Same with this track. Add to that, the fact that the kid was wearing a black jumpsuit and that's a recipe for disaster.

No doubt, he was hard to see and it seems like common sense that they would light up that area. First time I saw it and that's what I thought of immediately.

If Tony's trying to avoid him, I don't get why he's gunning the engine when he goes by. Ward wasn't in front of the car, so why not just roll on by. Perhaps Tony's skills have declined enough that he shouldn't be driving a sprint car anymore anyway.

Regardless, I expected a whole lot better from you guys than "blame the victim".

    The cars don't drive themselves.

Final thoughts on this and then I don't really want to come back to this board for a long, long time.

I don't think Stewart was 100% at fault. Nor do I think Ward was 100% at fault, but I do think all of you are super heartless to put the blame for this squarely on Ward. Terrible situation and both drivers did what turned out to be the wrong thing to do.

My biggest problem this morning was Stewart racing today and Greg Zipadelli saying it was "business as usual" and everybody pretending that nothing bad happened last night.

Who is everybody? Your judgment of others is the problem not what everyone else thinks. It is not our place to judge what Tony should do. I have never been in his shoes and I hope I never do. I will leave it to him to make his own decisions.

And you titled this thread about being 'adult'?

Some of us disagree with you, and have watched the video, concluding correctly it wasn't Stewarts fault -- at all. Was it a sad situation? Yes.

That's my question as well. One way a sprint car's handling can be controlled is by acceleration while steering, or simply goosing the engine can produce fishtailing. Stewart may have revved the engine to taunt Ward, but either way he had to know the car would fishtail. Tragic.

Authorities investigating the Tony Stewart racing accident that killed a fellow driver said today that "at this time, there are no facts to support any criminal behavior," Ontario County Sheriff Philip Povero said.

Investigators are reviewing two videos of the crash and are looking for additional recordings and eyewitness testimony from both spectators and other drivers on the course.

Kevin Ward Jr., 20, was killed Saturday after he got out of his car in what looked like an attempt to confront Stewart. Video of the incident has shown Ward gesturing towards Stewart's vehicle as he walked out of his own car and towards the center of the racetrack where he was run over by Stewart's car.

Povero said the district attorney "wants to certainly review this."

"As we speak, at this time, there are no facts that exist that support any criminal behavior or conduct or any probable cause of a criminal act in this investigation," Povero said, adding that no criminal charges have been filed in the case.

A story from TWC News in Rochester reports that investigators have now reviewed two videos of they incident involving Tony Stewart and Kevin Ward Jr. Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero said in the story that there are two different angles of Ward walking on the track after a crack at turn two on the 14th lap, and then being hit by Sewart's winged sprint car.

Investigators still say that there are no facts to support criminal behavior or conduct, or probable cause in the crash; however, they emphasized that the investigation is open, the story said.

Sprint car driver Cory Sparks has come forward with his side of the story, telling about the angle he witnessed of the event. "From what I saw, Tony did everything in his power to turn down away from Kevin to avoid him," he was quoted in the story. "People say that they heard the engine rev up and he gassed it. In a spring car, the only way to steer is you steer with the rear wheels as much as you do the steering wheel. In my opinion, what he did was he gassed it to turn down away from him."

He also noted in the article that the videos posted online don't give an accurate portrayal of what happened. There was no video in Stewart's car.
