    The Red Sox just beat the Orioles 6-4 with a 3-run Home Run in the bottom of the 9th by David Ortiz. With his performance in the last 3years, I have to say that he is one of the best clutch hitters ever. If he has a chance to win a game with one swing, he ALWAYS seems to come thru.

    What say you ? Any others ?

    So far this season Derrick Lee from the Cubs has been as clutch as it gets. He is having an amazing year right now leading the NL in batting average, HRs and RBIs.

    Anybody remember Bernie Carbo's pinch-hit 3 run homer to tie up game 6 in the '75 world series ?

    I would have to say Jorge Posada has some pretty big hits.

    Certainly Reggie Jackson. He has some huge hits. Seems like you couldn't get him out in the post-season.

    I would have never liked to pitch to Edgar Martinez in his prime.

    And yes, Derrick Lee is a big reason the Cubs are on such a tear right now.

    Tony Perez was Mr. Clutch for the Big Red Machine. While I was a kid in Cincy, Frank Robinson, though always good, was at his best when a game was on the line. He & Smokey Burgess were teammates for awhile on those Reds' no-pitching homer machines of the '50s. Almost reminds me of the CURRENT Reds!

    Boog Powell was Mr. Clutch for the Orioles for years.

    Gene Tenace, a local boy, suddenly stepped to the forefront for the A's, second only to Reggie as being "Mr. October".

    Lou Brock, better-known for base stealing, was a VERY tough out in a close game.

    Carl Furillo was not at all the best hitter in the '50s "Boys of Summer" Dodger teams...but if anyone was keeping "game-Winning Hits" stats, Carl would be right at the top for those Dodgers.

    Ruth & Gehrig both acknowledged Earle Combs as the clutch man of their late '20s-early '30s Yankee teams.

    Joe Carter. Remember the 1993 World Series? He also garnered many RBI's for not having a very high batting average nor hitting tons of homers, which is a good indicator of a clutch hitter.

    I remember Denis Menke in the 60's and 70's was a good clutch hitter for the Braves, Houston, and Cincinnati. His career BA was probably around .255, but he really had a knack for hitting when it counted.
