I figured out how to install a second F@H Console on my new Dual CPU machine, and it looks it's working now full throttle (100% load) and hope to be on top of the chart in a few days :D This bad boy could render 3-4 WUs a day

Originally had the graphic client running, and installed a second text console, but it messed up everything in the beginning but running the 2 consoles "-local" parameters after configuring "-local -config" did the job [IMG] There was no clear installation intruction on F@H page, i found the answer in their forums [IMG]

Right. I tried using the graphical one, and then a second text console, but that didn't work too well... Now I'm running two text console based clients, and things are working pretty well.

I may take one of my machines offline -- electric rates in CT are going up 22% soon.

When i had the graphic client running, I couldn't play any games in the same time, F@H was blocking the video resources and i had to turn it off :(
Now I'm running 2 text consoles and i can play games too in the same time [IMG]

I don't think the power usage is a big issue, depends what type PC you have. I have a digital power meter with the power supply and diplays me the computer's total power usage. I don't know how accurate these numbers are... On idle my PC consumes 80-90W, 1xF@H running 125W, 2xF@H running 160W, 2xF@H and game running 200W  This should cost like a quarter a day [IMG]

I know that over the time PCs overheat with all the dust depositing on the heatsinks, they have to be cleaned regurarly and more often. I vacuum my PC every few weeks (blowing air in it) and it kicks out tremendeus amount of dust

I took some measurements also. Most of the time, with F@H running, I'm seeing about 150W. I calculated it out, and it would cost me $20/month at the new rates to leave it on 24/7. I'm not so sure I want to do that. :)

I agree that the graphical client can cause strange problems. I tried to look at it over a Remote Desktop connection, and it was really bad. I've had no problems with their latest (but not beta) command line client.

How did you calculate the electricity consumption?

I pay approx. $35 per month for electricity and have 10+ appliances on 24/7 (refrigerator, TiVo, etc.). I seriously doubt that 1 computer would add $20 in monthly electricity costs. There is an increase in electricity costs, however, I estimated it to be $4-$5/month in my case.

On an unrelated note, my natural gas bill has gone up 70% since last year.

The power usage is calculated like this:

For example if you have a PC that consumes 150W, it brakes down: 24hrsx150W=3.6KWh per day. At $.15 per KWh rate is $.54 per day and $16.2 per month [IMG]

I know that part, but how do you find out what the computer's consumption is (how did you guys come up with 150W)?

BTW, we continue to move up the rankings - currently ranked at 4,560 of 41,961 teams. (22 CPUs completed 212 work units for 23,141 points). The rapid rise in our ranking will slow soon, but we should still be able to move into the Top 1,000.

I have a meter from Radio Shack that allows me to measure volts, amps, volt-amps, watts, power factor, frequency, and kWH consumed. I think it costs $30.

Our rate will probably be $.16/kWH. I recalculated and it looks like $17.85/month.

RadioShack sells power meters that measures the power usage from the outlet [IMG]

My comp has a built-in power meter in the Power Supply and a digital display board fitted in a 5.25'' drive bay with the fan controllers...

The electricity in the city is almost $.20/KWh, i think it's around .19 right now :(

And people think CT is an expensive state! I know energy has been going up everywhere, but this was a very drastic hike to happen all at once.

Yes, the meter I have measures at the outlet, not in the computer.

I am really surprised that a computer uses 150 KWh/month. I never would have thought that it uses more than 30-50KWh.

Me and Sovgrace were talking about a dual CPU computer that consumes 150W or 108KWh/month [IMG]

An average computer is only 100W, and it should consume 72KWh/month. The newest computers you can buy today consume 200+ W, which is around 150KWh/month [IMG] It all depends what type of PC you got...

I also have a crazy videocard that could consume up to 100W by itself when it kicks in full 3D load, but that's only when you're playing games :D

    Rev. Lowry,

If you are on the same team as us, you should check your F@H program to make sure you are team "47603". I noticed you said you're "46703" above, which will not be the same team.

Hopefully you just transposed the digits in your message. [IMG]
