I thought Britain was supposed to be this wonderful, open place, where all are welcome. At least that is the idea that some on this board have given. Seems Europe is having the same issue the U.S. is having. At least Britain has some leaders with the guts to do something about the problem unlike the yo yo's we have leading us.

Why in the world would you think that Britain is an open place to all peoples? My experience has been the are very provincial.

Oh, but I thought Europe was so progressive, open, and better than the USA?

Because I found your comment interesting and wonder how you arrived at your conclusion.

So, what makes you think that Britain and the UK are progressive, especially when it comes to aliens?

Yep, it looks like the UK is trying to control who enters their borders, as they have every right to do. Only in the US is this considered immoral.

Yet, some here have given the idea that Europe is superior to the U.S. and that Europeans look down on us backward yanks. Sort of knocks a hole in that premise.

I suspect they think we don't deserve the good things that have come our way. I suspect our president thinks the same!

Anyway I applaud the UK for quietly doing what needs to be done regarding their sovereign borders.

It helps to have a Channel as your eastern border. Then the Channel also protects France from rapacious British wine and cheese lovers seeking to plunder La Belle France.

Being an island has saved their rear ends more than once!

We have oceans to the east, to the west, and Canada to the north. You would think it would be relatively simple to control only one border.
