How do you, as a youth in this society, see the topic of dating?
Have you heard of courting? and when do you feel you should date and should you date more than one person?

I experimented with dating. I dated one guy and that didn't turn out too well. He and I remained friends. As we spent more time together, he and I became closer and began to talk about courtship. He and I are now courting and I couldn't ask for anybody better [IMG]

    As for more than one:
i believe that courtship is the step before engagement and a very small dividing line is what is the seperator. Because courtship, and dating, is the preperation for marriage, one and only one partner should be dated at a time. No more than one, and honestly should be one of the greatest issues while courting or dating.

    Interested in hearing your replies.

    In Christ's gracious love,
    Teresa :D

Actually, as a not-so-young-anymore single, I prefer the mode of courting rather than dating.... dating sets you up for things that are unrealistic....

    I agree Q,
My wife and I called it dating, but it fits many definitions of courting I have heard. IMHO their's dating/courting and there's arranged marriage. What many people call Courting is simply dating while following Biblical principles for appropriateness. (And I ain't talking about the 6 inch rule here) ;)

Wasn't rocket science, just plain old common sense, but I will tell you this. We knew each other and our families so well, that there really were not any surprises, and the transition was pretty smooth.

I'm a teen and i'm dating someone. Do you think i'm doing the wrong thing? We go to church together and if we hang out without friends my parents are always here. So do you think it is wrong?
    null

    Dear Anna,

Welcome to the Baptistboard! Were glad you stopped in with your question and hope you will stay and participate some more.

You said: I'm a teen and i'm dating someone. Do you think i'm doing the wrong thing?

I can't tell you that. If dating is right for you or not is between you and God. Some people shouldn't date until they are in college, some people should never date.

People like to put a lot of rules on dating, but the most important question when considering a dating/courting relationship is "What are the intentions behind the relationship?" What is the relationship all about? Why are you dating this person? Is everything you do honoring and pleasing to God?

There is never an easy answer to "Is dating right or wrong". It sounds like you have set some really good limits for you and your boyfriend and are on a good track. Keep it up! And remember as you are growing closer to your boyfriend, you and your boyfriend should be growing closer to Christ.

    Have a great week!

from my knowledge, the biblical model is betrothel but it seems that it is no longer being practice. at least for me, i got non-christian parents, so they can't understand this. the next best thing is courtship, with marriage in mind. dating is definitely out as it plays with the emotional aspect of our lives with no sense of security. it focuses more on the present fulfilment then lasting emotional feelings.

I think you need to slow down and starting checking what you right. You think teen is wrong? you mean dating? courtship? consider expanding a little on your posts.

    Thanks.

I don't think that dating is wrong as long as you do the right thing and don't put yourself in tricky situations! I am 14 and I definitely don't know what love is yet, but I have a "boyfriend"! We just see each other at church and hang out and stuff! Relationships can be good if you are careful!
