    Guitar25,

My teenage years are a bit behind me, but I am a middle school group leader in a church that prominently features Christian rock music. One of our driving principles is to “Present timeless Truth in relevant environments.” Applied to our worship music that translates to songs with appropriate messages (timeless Truth) backed with musical styles that are appealing to our intended audience (relevant environments).

This musical style clearly does not appeal to everyone, nor is it intended or expected to. But there is a large audience that Christian rock does reach and, without it, many of those people might not hear the message in any format. That would be a tragedy.

So, Guitar25, be as “undignified” with your Christian rock as you feel led to be! (http://www.christianlyricsonline.com/artists/david-crowder/undignified.html)

Its all for You my Lord!

I must say this offended me. You know how many people on this very board you dissed because they do not have the same music standard that you share? You are not able to back up your music standard the only thing you can say is :
in which I will happily reply: Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

I promise you that guitar25, Becca, myself, trotter, and many others on this board have done this very thing and came to this conclusion.

Just a little while ago I heard "I can only imagine" by Mercyme on the radio.(I heard it at work) You want to know what I call that? I call that a witness.

I was just going to let this go, but you angered me a little bit. If you would like to though I will drop it.

i am one of tator tot's youth. I believe that that verse is telling believers to be useful to God whether it is being hot or cold. therefore i believe that ccm is useful to God to reach younger generations. however i also see that hymns are useful to God to reach older generations. i believe that ccm reaches people who do not normally come to church.

Nice tesimonies, all of the Tatortot clan. lol. I feel the same. My involvment in the christian music scene, with my band especially, has brought me closer to God and to Christ. Without listening to CCM and Christian Rock and playing the Christian Music with my band, i would be, as Jack Hagar puts it, a Typical Christian

this is still one of tator tots youth I just feel that we should be willing to do what ever it takes to reach the lost. The message does not have to change just the way we present it

    You know...Guitar25..your right....
I dont like being the "Typical Christian" either. That why I carry my Bible at school with me...I only wear long skirts or dresses (sometimes culottes)...I go out Soulwinning with my friends...and I listen to Christian music that is totally set apart from, not only the world but also from what, most Christian's listen to now days. I do these thingss, not only to keep from being a Typical Christian..but also to be the best Christian I can be..for the cause of Christ.
    You sister in Christ,
    Kate

That the words of rock music are not understandable is not a good argument agianst rock. Sorry. I, and many other people, have no problem understanding the words.

I agree with pep, you all are judging the music, its the content of the music that makes it bad.

and this is to one of the tater clan... sea of faces is a great song.

I agree with Woody and Kaytelyn. I do the things I do because I love my Lord. I do them because I want people to see a diffrence and know God is still saving and there is still such a thing as "an old-fashioned conversion". I want to keep myself pure and unspotted from the world like the Word of God says. That means everything I say, read, look at, listen too, wear...everything that makes up part of my life should line up with His Word and bring glory to Him. It's hard, and boy do I fail some days, but I'm thankful for a God of forgivness and a new day. God is so good, and I want others to know it.

Neither do I. You have to listen past the music, whether you like the style or not and listen. Cause when you listen its not hard at all. Here's a song by the Christian heavy metal band Disciple.

    NOT ROCK STARS

    Servants of the Most High

I am just a man with as many problems
    As anyone who has lived
    And I have faced temptations
Some I pass and some I fail
I know what it's like to be on the mountain
    And in the deep abyss
And I know what it's like
To be rescued from the stronghold of hell

When I have not humbled myself
    God has humbled me
And I'm so far from knowing it all
    Cause He's still teaching me
But I want to share the love He gave
So we all could be not of this world
    Not of this world

Servants of the Most High, not rock stars
New creatures in Christ, not rock stars (2x)
We are meant to be examples
And not idols to be praised

We are just one of the many parts
    Of the body of God
We're not here for our own glory
We're not here to steal from you
But our prayer from our heart
Is that you'll find God and see the truth
    There is something greater
Than anything that money can buy
    The privilege and the honor
To preach the gospel of Jesus Christ
And we want to share the love He gave
So we all could be not of this world
    Not of this world

Servants of the Most High, not rock stars
New creatures in Christ, not rock stars (2x)
Servants of the Most High, not rock stars
New creatures in Christ, not rock stars (2x)

It's unfortunate that people should condemn all Christian rock music because of a few bands they heard about, or a web site that misleads (av1611 site). That site, for example, claimed that the band tourniquet toured with the secular group "Atheist" but that is false. Tourniquet never did even one show with them.

Moreover, dc talk, who I believe the Lord used to bring me unto Himself, has some very overt Christian lyrics that are very much understandable. Listen to "In the Light" by dc talk, or "Into Jesus."

If you don't like the music personally, that's fine, but when you start claiming all Christian rock groups are satanic, then you are really being very judgmental, in the truest sense of the word.

Guitars don't have the spirit of satan looming in their strings, that whenever you strum it satan comes out of it. No, it's all about the intent of your heart, and if you are truly using your music, of whatever kind, to praise the Lord God. It becomes judgemental when you start to assume the thoughts of their hearts or the intent of their music.

Let's all praise and Worship God in the best way we can, and serve Him in prayer and by reading His Holy Word, as well as preaching His name all over the earth. Rock music, or rap, or whatever music, does not and will not make me stop loving my Creator and obeying His commands.

    God bless.

    guitar,
you say its about the words that are in the song and you have to listen past the style. why dont you just listen to hymns with good words in stead of wordly rock styles with good words

Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

i dont think rock style songs are psalms hymns or spiritual songs

LOL! This is very comical! (From reading the first page) Is there some statement that music - sound frequencies invovling repetative beats and melodies - have some form of morality? Excuse me for the intrusive attitude, but it is rediculous!

Music has no more morals than the sound of a lawnmower - they are both sound frequencies (although one is more organized)! Lyrics contain morals!

The real argument at hand is what does God accept in regards to music? I believe that the book of Psalms sums it up - words that bring him praise.

Lyrics are nothing more than arranged speach. If I were to read the Bible using a melody as to make it as if I were singing, the words wouldn't be arranged as nicely, but I would still be doing the same thing as if I were speaking.

I also hate the argument that "rock" cannot be used to praise God. What do you mean by "rock" AC/DC? I don't think that "Highway to Hell" will bring someone to Christ (althoguh with God, all things are possible. I'd call this one a miracle though! :D ). The music STYLE you choose to praise God with is a preference, but it must contain lyrics that praise God.

However, if that Christian rock, rap, etc. leads you to listen to secular rock, rap, etc. -- the stuff with the wrong lyrics, then you should re-evaluate the reason why you listen to that music. If you don't feel convicted when listening to something that says "G-D" or "kill 'dem b****s", then there must be something wrong with your relationship with God.

That's all for now, but I WILL read that article and get back with you on it! God-bless!

    -David

    [EDIT]
    -Lol woody! that's great!

If you do not like it do not listen to it. I like it so I listen to it. I could not listen to hymns all week so I listen to Christian rock and I love it.
