I am a little curious at what colleges either you attend, are going to attend, or have attended. What was your major or minor and what will it be?

I plan on attending Hyles Anderson College in 1 year and 2 months. I'm going to study Pastoral Theology and am going to come back home to be an assistant pastor for a few years at my home church.

I just got accepted to Tabernacle Baptist College for the 2006 fall semester!! I CAN'T WAIT!
I'm majoring in Education. I want to teach troubled teenage girls, and have good training so I can homeschool any kids the Lord gives me.
The people at my school tell me they feel sorry for my students........is that a good thing or a bad thing?!?!
Oh well, I'm just excited about going! It's about a year before I go, but I'm already trying to imagine what it will be like!

I see we have several Education majors here. Just a few points. Because of No Child Left Behind and other education laws be careful were you go to college. Make sure the school is a liberal arts school and not just a Bible school. A friend of mine went th Baptist Bible College (which is just a Bible school) and his degree isn't worth a lot. He can only teach in a private school, because he is not considered "highly qualified." And you can't major in education, you major in a subject, like history or biology, and then take education classes and get certified. Just notes of caution.

That sounds like it's a terrible thing, but it's really not. I'm not going to be an education major, I'm going to be a doctor. So for my pre-med degree I am not going to major in pre-medicine, but in biology or physiology...it's kind of the same concept, not necessarily a bad thing... it's what you're supposed to do.

I just finished my sophomore year at Oklahoma State Univeristy. My major is civil engineering. Once I graduate, I'll go to Heartland Baptist Bible College and major in missions.

I will probably get my major from Heartland Bible Baptist College, in elementary education. This is worth alot more than you are giving credit. If a person wants to or feels called to be a private Christian school teacher..this major is mroe than enough to accomplish that plan. To say its worth nothing..isnt true to every one.

Don't be so sure. Many Christian schools today will not hire those without credentials from the state because of their accreditation. The state has requirements that exceed what any private school does. One Christian school I checked into teaching at would offer me 16,000 dollars when I was already making 22,000 at the secular school. It was in an area where I could rent a shack of an apartment for 500 a month at the time. at that pay I would have had to pay about 1/2 of my take home pay in rent.

I have a cousin who went to a very good Christian college but she cannot get a credential to teach because the state will not accept her degree.

A person who graduated from a secular university or college and has a credential can teach at any school but the person who does not have the right degree will not even be considered for a credential at any secular school. A friend of mine has been teaching for over 20 years at a very good Christian school. He came from a major secular university that had very good teacher training. We went to the same university.

Don't assume anything. Always ask about your possibilities.

My personal opinion is that groups on campuses like The Navigators will give you much more intense discipleship training than any Christian college ever would. I have been to seminary and a secular university and can tell you the training among Christians in those groups at secular universities is far more demanding and intense. We memorized two versees each week, attended at least one Bible study that we had prepared beforehand, attended a meeting once a wekk and shared our faith one day a week. All of us went ot church and many of us taught Sunday School or something else. I started a children's ministry with the help of the men that were on my team. Plus I worked a job and went to classes.

At a secular university the Christians in those groups have great fellowship and have a captive audience with which to share their faith. It teaches you to stand up strong for your faith and be strong enough to share your faith. Before I graduated form college I had developed a team of 65 men starting with prayer and my God. One by one I won people and we shared our faith until 1/3 off a dorm was won to Christ in about one year. It changed from being a dorm that was hard to reach to where God answered our prayer and there were morew Christians in that dorm than any other. All through prayer and the opportunities God gave. How would like to have the experience of seeing people come to Christ by asking you about your faith. Twice I had that happen in the dorm. aAother young man who came to Christ within two weeks had a knock on his door shortly before we started to pray and the man at the door wanted to ask the man in the room about Christ. The Christian life is exciting when you are in the battle.

God will sustain you wherever you are. Seek his face and not his hand and he will give you a joy unlike you have ever had.
