If you've experienced this, what helped you?

Focused and specific prayers after seeking biblical basis for the prayers. Attached scripture to each prayer. Do it in short periods of time but more frequently.

What did you mean by your first sentence, especially referring to the biblical basis?

Can you find scripture that shows God would be willing to support a specific prayer request?

We should do it anyways but it keeps you focused and gives you a goal. Further, it will often give motivation for a that specific request.

Prayer, even when you don't want to still strengthens your relationship with God or at the least keeps it from getting worse.

I look at it like calling my elderly mother. Sometimes I just don't want to talk to her, but I do anyway. It's not always the best conversation, but it always reminds me how much I love her when I'm done.

NKJV Luke 18:1 Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart.

At my age I depend heavily upon a prayer list and in the AM when I look at it sitting there at my desk I can get discouraged.

But the passage above gives me heart and I pray and feel better that I did.
I love to read over the parable concerning persistence (not rote repetition) in prayer, that helps as well.

lose heart (egkakein, egkakeo) UBS 01742 Become discouraged, tire of.

I've noticed that many believers tend to over think things (especially on message boards). The simplest answers are usually the best. We all struggle with prayer at times in our lives and this is what helps me. Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane (pictured below) and I go to the Oasis of Mara (bottom picture). It's a natural oasis located a couple of blocks from where I live. I go there to clear my head and walk among the palm trees to say my prayers. You can pray anywhere, but when you go to that special place I find that it helps you regenerate and get closer to God. :) So where's your special place? If you don't have one I recommend someplace outdoors, away from the crowds.

    1 Chronicles 4:
9 Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother named him Jabez and said, “I gave birth to him in pain.”

10 Jabez called out to the God of Israel: “If only You would bless me, extend my border, let Your hand be with me, and keep me from harm, so that I will not cause any pain.” And God granted his request.

You asked the question "Can you find scripture that shows God would be willing to support a specific prayer request?"

That's a specific prayer request God answered.

Ok that is not what I meant. I was telling him for each prayer request he has he needs to look for scripture that supports his personal prayer request. I was not looking for an answer to a general question.

Pray the Psalms. The Book of Common Prayer has the Psalter divided into morning and evening prayers for 30 days, a wonderful ministry for those dry times.

I just was reading through 1 John 5, and I prayed for assurance of salvation (assuming I am saved, of course). That chapter is full to the brim of such matters.
