The civil war in Syria would have been done four years ago if the US and Russia had left Syria to solve it's own problems. Instead outside weapons suppliers have turned Syria into a bombed out shell that may never recover. It is such a sad thing.

I like this action, message sent, but wonder why it took 59 cruise missiles?

IIRC we launched 125 cruise missiles at the opening of Gulf War 1 (I Googled around but found no numbers.) Tonight we launched 59. How many airplanes could they have had at this Syrian airbase?

According to the news, only one aircraft was used to drop the gas bombs.

OK, but we'd want to take out as many planes as we could along with control towers, fuel tanks, and radar installations. They said they didn't crater the runways. These secondary targets might have used a half dozen cruise missiles, so was there 50 planes on this base? Guess we'll find out in the morning.

Agreed - 1 plane out of 50 or so leaves 49 others which could do the same thing.

Of course there are other airfields.

Hopefully Asad will take the hint.

If not, well, here we go again - déjà vu Saddam Hussein.

Could be a shrewd move with President Xi in town: shows that the US is not afraid to use military action to stop nasty dictators eg: Kim Jong-un. Not sure how it helps the fight against ISIS though.

I think its still unlikely that western forces will be sent in, the very problem is that there is no 'good' side to back and bring to power as both have committed heinous atrocities.

No doubt Trump will be criticized for this, yet I suspect many of those people will be the same people that sat on their hands the last three times around after various 'red lines' were crossed.

Ultimatley the people of Syria and those that belong to the religion of Islam in general have to come to a reformation and get to the point where as a collective group they reject and abhor the vile behaviour that is so often done in the name of their religion and to also address and have theological reasons why various parts of the koran that appear to condone and encourage behaviour that is in opposition to the ten commandments are in error. Until Islam and its followers have that revelation they will never have peace in their nations. Western countries cant change any of that, they need to do it on their own.

Islam will never have a reformation of their beliefs. Sure there are some so-called 'moderate Muslims' --but many of them still support the actions of terrorists. Surveys of Muslims in many lands, including the U.S.A. have shown that most support Sharia. Most support the deaths of non-heterose_uals, support the death of those who no longer want to be considered Muslims etc. The list goes on.

The Koran and Hadith are vile. The contents of both are from the fiery Pit. That ideology is wicked to the core.

Yes. It is known that the US, Russia and other mercenaries are supplying weapons to both sides. Stop assisting and let the Syrians work this out themselves.

Pick a supplier. If we had stayed out at the beginning and let Syria figure out its own problems the war would be done, cities would be thriving with business and millions of people would not be displaced. Obama and his Islamic Spring uprisings have led to a Muslim belief that a new caliphate and messiah is coming to lead the world into a Muslim world where all people bow to Allah. Obama opened up that hope by butting into Syria.
