The Dems are out of touch. Trump still isn't a very good President.

    Again, it's funny.

If memory serves me correctly, republicans were blamed for a shutdown when they didn't control any of the 3 branches.

Was a filibuster involved? I don't recall the specific instance to which you are referring, so I can't comment on it.

I've endured a few government furloughs and it is no vacation when you have a mortgage and bills to pay. Yeah you get it back (sometimes) later but it can hurt when you are going through it.

I apologize for sounding insensitive. I wasn't intending to minimize the hardship during the shutdown.

I was just wanting to emphasize the importance of keeping employees on the job in the first place. That way, we don't have the hardship at all!

    Ah, that's a new standard.

So it appears democrats can and will shut down the government by using the filibuster. Yet republicans will still get the blame. Handy.

If the Democrats use a filibuster, they'd have their share of the blame, too.

No your good, it's just that people tend to forget there are a substantial amount of people that are tired of being the first pawns to be sacrificed for someone else's political agenda. It gets tedious.

which is why it is so dumb to furlough govt workers - they will get the money anyways - which amounts to free time off.
But as UT also stated - it is a hardship when the money does not show up in your checking account.

Now if they were to "furlough" welfare payments........

Stefan is right - Not only is there harship on the govt employee - but citizens as well - when a person needs assistance (and I an not talking about welfare) there is no help available.

Did I mention that maybe welfare should be furloughed?

The bottom line seems to be that the House can no longer use the "power of the purse" to stop a rogue president from writing his own laws in the oval office and getting them funded.

But Republicans always get the blame, no matter what.

And democrats always threaten to cut off social security, no matter what.

I believe that assistance programs may in some cases be subject to the shutdown. It depends on the specifics of the appropriations already made for the individual programs, as I understand it. Food Stamps (SNAP) may be subject to a shutdown.

The truth is that the former president was given MUCH more support early on than Trump has been by all of the Dems!

Totally untrue. Before Obama took the oath of office the GOP met, I believe it was at the Greenbrier in WV, and agreed to oppose anything and everything that Obama proposed. This they did for 8 years.

NO president will get the SC pick though on their last year, as that is traditional! As the Congress always waits on the incoming President president for that!
