How About A Mission Field....Right In Front Of Our Noses?

    Why is the emphasis always have to be about overseas?
    I don't recall Jesus ever qualifying a missions field to only
    be about some other country. He said to go unto all the
    nations, but does that mean we don't have a mission field
    right under our noses right where you're at right now?

    The word "nations" means "many people", and not necessarily
    "over there" in "Timbucktoo".

    I agree. I guess its just easier to mail a check to the Annie Armstrong and Lottie Moon funds than to actually do something. Honestly, in this geographic area, there is huge opposition to bringing people "not like us" into our churches. The Pentecostals and non denominational want everybody. The Baptist churches are still as segregated as they were 60 years ago.

    Which is why I left the Fundamental Baptist fellowship
    a long time ago. And now just left another church because
    of "differences of opinion" over something that was just
    plain ridiculous.

    I appreciate Fundamental Baptists for their staunch patriotism
    and support for law enforcement, which is more than what I
    can say about most non-Baptist fellowships. I've been around
    enough Pentecostal's and Independent Christian churches
    of varied stripes who behaved as though police work and
    military service is "for the unsaved" and not for God' people.

    That was the only good thing about Fundamental churches.

    But I can no longer tolerate Baptist Pastor's and members
    of such congregations who regard all "outsiders" as suspect,
    unless and until they prove themselves worthy by works only.

    Over the exit doors from our church foyer was a large banner which read "You are now entering the Mission Field."

    And we were IFB. :D

    We too (sort of - IFCA). Not only that we were KJVO (I am not anymore) and we would head out to the Boston Commons/Gardens about once a month and/or just do a canvass door-to-door in the surrounding neighborhoods We had tons of visitors and Wednesday evening was visitation night.

    No, it was not a KJVO message but the gospel of forgiveness of sins and eternal life through faith in the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ as personal Savior.

    And, we were a missionary church supporting and sending to the uttermost parts of the earth.

    It does still happen, probably less now than then (40 - 50 years ago).

    Our church (IFB) has organized soulwinning on the first Saturday of every month. Our church is quite integrated and we do have a separate Spanish service. Our mission field is all around us, locally we have our Second Mile ministry...going into the more...oh...economically deprived areas of our city and form bible clubs, homework helps, etc.

    So, I guess it depends on the church...
