    Hello all,

I thought you might want to enjoy a "rhetorical reading" of a sermon the Founders Journal published of mine some time back on Charles Spurgeon.

    Title:

    “Compel Them to Come In”
Posture and Persuasion in the Preaching
    of Charles Haddon Spurgeon

    See p. 2

Look for this article to be a chapter in my new Kindle e-book about Rhetoric and Homiletics soon to be released in the late Fall of 2017.

I hope you have enjoyed it.

I especially enjoyed seeing this in a Founders publication:

"In this his final appeal, he delivers them over to the Savior and the Spirit as he rehearses a familiar passage from John’s Revelation. He uses beautifully descriptive language as he focuses on John’s description of the Savior standing at the heart’s door and knocking (Revelation 3:20)."

Spurgeon's aim was to "move his hearers to leave their present unregenerate condition" and he ended the service assured that some had indeed "bowed your hearts to him through the sermon this morning."

    Thank you.

    Jerome,

Thank you for the kind words. I have six conference papers I have written over the years concerning rhetoric, how it is used, and rhetorical readings on several sermons. I will publish them hopefully down in the Fall of 2017 in a Kindle e-book. You might look for it. I hope you were blest by reading this.

    Check back soon.
