Hardshell Baptist (derogatory designation) = obstinate = resistant to change = hardheaded = remain with the old ways = refuses to conform to groupthink herd mentality .... :D

I don't know either (don't really care). But that's another lesson learned - we interact via online correspondence so take things with a grain of salt as feelings dangling at the end of ones sleeve tends to get knocked off.

Why would posters not learn and grow and correct their mistaken views? Pride, arrogance, and a know it all mentality?
People do not post to learn and grow. That is why all efforts to discuss biblical doctrine are obfuscated with smears, falsehoods, and change of subjects.

We know all scripture is profitable for instruction, yet when a doctrine is refuted with scripture, it is said the scripture does not mean what it says. With that as our prevalent attitude, no one is even given the opportunity for edification.

I would like a stricter area of the forum - more along the lines of a formal debate where evidences are not only demanded but are also put under scrutiny. I'm just not sure how well it would go over (we all would have to tighten our game).

I'd like to reflect on another aspect that I think the BB has aided.

Age is no friend. It is that insidious wage being paid because sin remains in the flesh.

I could sit around "Waiting on God" (taken from a long ago BBC program).

However, I will not be so easily paid off.

I will demand the flesh conform, that the mind be cleansed, that the Spirit of God shine from me.

And when that final wage be paid, I will hope the last breath be exhaled as, My Savior "Led Me All the Way." (John Peterson: Jesus Led Me All the Way)

Until then, I hope for some to be a thorn in the side to keep the focus upon the sufficiency of Christ, to others a brother in Christ, a prayer partner, a quiet confidant.

So, though the BB has not greatly changed my theological perspective, it has been expressly beneficial.

    I am unanimous in that.

But that actually may take the fun out of the game.

Don't you get exercised when unsupported opinions are offered as fact?

Just consider what avenue would your Spirit be exercised if not in attempting to show by Scriptures how unsupported opinion are bridges of termite ridden wood. Good for the termites, but worthless to carry the load of need.

Yes, I suppose so...until it becomes fruitless anyway. I find more benefit when I realize this in my own view.

Agreed, and in this I hope that the benefit can be shared by all in the BB world of threads.

That the Light of the truth be that which all issues resolve. For that is the poison that destroys the termites, though they often do not even realize it.

The Baptist Debate Forums all should be put under stricter scrutiny. Posters are allowed to post obvious falsehoods, to derail and deflect.

    [Edited.]

Does 1 John 2:2 really say the "blood" is the propitiation, or does it say "He" is the propitiation? When falsehoods are allowed, truth is obfuscated. Not what we should be all about as an arm of Christ's ministry.

Unfortunately it is not always so clear. I've been asking for Scripture on another issue for months, only to find the issue is believed to be inherently implied or presupposed in Scripture. Sometimes the best we can do is get to that point and agree to disagree.

If this were a seminary setting then it would be very different. I suppose this board having such a wide arena prohibits restrictions that would be in place within a seminary setting. I have seen an attempt to get better at requesting evidence, but at the end of the day I think we can only go so far.

Maybe it is the nature of the board (debate and fellowship) where stricter venues are less fellowship. We do the best we can.

Certainly folks can make a case this means that (propitiation equals means of salvation from God's wrath) but rather than indicate they believe the intended meaning if this or that, many claim that is what it says, when it does not.

Take unable to understand "the things" of the Spirit. Some say this must mean all the things, and could not just refer to spiritual meat, the contextual idea.

Another problem is when folks attribute ulterior motives to another poster, as if they were mind readers. This behavior should be corrected

Then we have the name calling smears. Even Wikipedia acknowledges Calvinist use "Semi-Pelaganism" as a pejorative. Yet without any foundation in truth, we see that term used non-stop on this forum. I believe no one comes to Christ unless they are drawn by the Father, and therefore by definition I am not an SP. Yet I am called that again and again.

Finally it appears the same infraction draws a differing response, depending on whether a person is a Calvinist. One of my posts was edited as off topic in this thread. Yet when Icon threw up Evan's divorce to undercut his thread's topic, nothing was done.
I could go on but I believe leadership knows what I am talking about. If you look at a bottle you will note that the bottleneck is at the top. :)

"When it does not" according to your understanding. Yet we are admonished that "every man be fully persuaded in his own mind." The Priesthood of the believer is one of the distinctives of the Baptist faith.

Even when you do it? By accusing others of "post(ing) obvious falsehoods, to derail and deflect?"

If you have been called a name, did you report the post?

Wikipedia is probably not a real good source for getting information, especially theological information.

But is that all that Semi-Pelagianism encompasses?

Semi-Pelagians believe that God’s love extends to all the world and that the human will must move towards God in response to His drawing, rather than the Augustinian view of God’s election.

Would that describe what you believe? If not what would you say you about the above you don't believe?

    Did you report the post?

Contrary to popular belief the Mods and Admins have lives away from the BB. We can't be here all the time and can't read every post in every thread.

Just me. Yesterday I studied for today's message. Attended the funeral of a loved one in Christ who passed away after a valiant battle with cancer.

Chose the songs for today's service.

Went to choir practice. Set up the auditorium for this morning's service.

Called my daughter to give her the information for the bulletins.

Drove to my daughter's home to pick up the bulletins for today.

Put the finishing touches on today's sermon.

Went to Walmart for a new microwave and a new toaster.

Came home. Unloaded the new microwave and set it up on the kitchen. (Spent an hour trying to figure out how to set the clock, even after reading the instructions!)

Collapsed into bed at about 12:30 AM.

And I am sure the other Admins have similar schedules.

And also remember that, as a man in his 70s, I am not as fast as I used to be. :D

So, if you have a complaint about a rule violation, we probably won't see it unless you report it.

This post has just got to be completely taken as sarcasm!

However, perhaps Van should start a thread on “falsehoods allowed” or “ truth obfuscation” and see if there is any truth to what he thinks is false or any false in what he desires as truth.

This isn’t the place to argue over personal pronoun use.

Are all believer’s an arm, because I thought Paul said that believers are each given a specific gift in the ministry. That not all were the same.

I might think of myself a nose hair that when irritated causes the body to discharge pollution, and more often needs cut back to prevent being exposed to the public inappropriately.

    :)

Sometimes people are deeply offended by past situations and an innocent comment from someone not involved hits the wrong way. There are a couple of people that I probably will never view as I once did because of an old wound (JDF is not one of them). That's one unfortunate lesson I learned on this forum. So I do understand how we come to view people via our experiences even online. Sometimes we take things more seriously than they deserve.

This is exactly why no edifying discussion of biblical doctrine occurs. Rather than address the issues, they are denied, and fault in found in the messenger.

So, when posts made by you that are in error, rather than addressing the error, you would rather be found personally at fault?

Van, your mind is like a parachute, it only functions correctly when opened.

If you are unwilling to consider the positions of others, but dismiss them out of hand, then there is very little possibility of meaningful discussion. :)
