What kind of body is raised from the dead?

    In a recent thread there arose this issue of the attributes of that future body believers enjoy in eternity.

    What kind of attributes will the resurrection body have?


    36You fool! That which you sow does not come to life unless it dies; 37and that which you sow, you do not sow the body which is to be, but a bare grain, perhaps of wheat or of something else. 38But God gives it a body just as He wished, and to each of the seeds a body of its own. 39All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one flesh of men, and another flesh of beasts, and another flesh of birds, and another of fish. 40There are also heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is one, and the glory of the earthly is another. 41There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory.

    42So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body; 43it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45So also it is written, “The first MAN, Adam, BECAME A LIVING SOUL.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. 46However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural; then the spiritual.47The first man is from the earth, earthy; the second man is from heaven. 48As is the earthy, so also are those who are earthy; and as is the heavenly, so also are those who are heavenly. 49Just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we will also bear the image of the heavenly.

    The answer is right there in the passage you quoted. It is not "from the earth, earthy". Adam's makeup was that.

    We will bear the image of the heavenly. And how is the heavenly described in these verses? "A life-giving spirit"! Christ is the life-giving Spirit. I did not underline "became" because it is a misreading from the translators, not in the Greek.

    We will be like Him. Notice the descriptions of Adam and Christ are based on where they came from; Adam came from the dust of the earth. Christ came from Heaven. When He came He did not have a physical body. Per this definition, He does not have one now. He had one during the Incarnation owing to the necessity of His Messianic mission, Heb. 2:14.

    It is the same physical body that we died in, just raised up and glorified!

    For this corruptible (?Body?) must put on incorruption, and this mortal (?Body?) must put on immortality.

    Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. Rom 6:9

    We should look at jesus' body after the resurrection to understand what is going on with our bodies when resurrected.

    At the very least it is a body with an incorruptible nature that cannot die. However, (Revelation 1:12-16) shows us a beforehand unseen image of Jesus' resurrected body. Of course, Jesus' resurrected body was shown in a different form in ancient Israel. Jesus looked human and was not terrifying to behold. However, his body was supernatural in a way, he was able to show up somewhere which was locked or look different so that the disciples into not knowing it was him. It appears the resurrected body's appearance may be changeable in certain ways.

    Not only that, we are told we will be like the angels in heaven at the resurrection (Luke 20:34-36). I take that to mean like them physically as well, at least in that they cannot die. But that our bodies will be different from what is sown on earth by God is given in (1 Corinthians 15:36-38) and (1 Corinthians 15:50-53).
