Canada Geese have been called flying rats. They are arrogant, winged hissing beasts leaving green sodden excrement wherever they congregate.

My brother gave me a few breasts of goose a while back.

The meat is unlike chicken, it’s as red as beef and had me wondering about the admonition to the gentile believers in the book of Acts.

From the letter to the gentile believers

    Acts 15: 28-29 CSB

For it was the Holy Spirit’s decision—and ours—not to place further burdens on you beyond these requirements:
    that you abstain
    from food offered to idols,
    from blood,
from eating anything that has been strangled,
    and from sexual immorality.
You will do well if you keep yourselves from these things.

Are these dietary restrictions for today's believers?

My two cents? Paul says later on in Romans 14 to not be a stumbling block to others.

I think the Holy Spirit was trying to promote a unity between these saved Jews and saved Gentiles by promoting a compromise that was benign and did not interfere with salvation.

He told them to stay away from immorality and to keep a few dietary restrictions that in essence kept one from idols/blood. It wasn't going to hurt for the Gentile Christians to abstain from blood or strangled animals which did not have the blood thoroughly removed. And the Holy Spirit asking them to abstain from meet sacrificed to idols would keep these new Christians away from idolaters selling the meat.

The Jews who had been saved would be content that some restrictions were placed on these people whom they struggled to see as their brothers and sisters.

No, these regulations, except for abstaining from sexual immorality, are not for Christians. I would say that choosing to purposefully eat blood - such as blood puddings - is gross and God did say that the life is in the blood, so I would not eat it. But I do not believe it is a sin.

This passage in the book of Acts was written between 'new covenant' believers (Jew and gentile).

Like Scarlett, I believe this passage shows believers in the act of compromise in order to promote unity.
The admonitions would encourage the gentile believers to separate from heathen practices.

That being said, I didn't eat the bloody goose breast. :Tongue

That's reminiscent of an ancient Christian motif:

    The Symbol of Self-Sacrifice

"the pelican became a major symbol of self-sacrifice and charity. Early Christians had adopted it by the 2nd century....Sometimes the bird doesn’t really look like a pelican in such representations, but if it’s feeding its young with drops from its breast...it’s definitely a pelican...it represents self-sacrifice and charity because it was believed to feed its young with its own blood."
