And no good reason why either should routinely be in civilian hands. 'Self-defence'? With one of those? You gotta be kidding me!

    [Edit: Name calling]

    Works here.

And how can you tell which are the good guys with guns and which are the bad guys? Let me know how that's working for you..

Until you find a better way of stopping legally held firearms from being used to massacre children then, heck, yes!

Should we confiscate forks, too? Your "English Breakfast" kills millions, not dozens.

    Britain's obesity death rate
    by JAMES CHAPMAN, Daily Mail

More people are dying in Britain due to being overweight or obese than anywhere else in Europe, a study revealed yesterday.

Around one in every 11 deaths in the UK is now linked to carrying excess fat - 50 per cent more than the rate in France.

Experts also warned that the number of fatalities due to obesity may soon, for the first time, exceed those caused by smoking.

Muslims love your hatred of weapons. Your complete fall to Islam with be very easy, and from what I can see, it won't be very long now.

Anyone want to live in a country where 10 policemen run like little girls from 1 guy with a knife because even the police don't have guns in the UK.

The British imagine that if you ask a criminal politely to stop, he will. If he doesn't and things get really desperate, next, they offer the bad guy a nice cup of tea. If that fails, they apologize to him and give him a free apartment and put him on the dole.

Why not? Using your comment about alcohol, logic dictates no civilian should be allowed to purchase beer as more children are killed as the result of alcohol misuse than guns.

Most of us probably remember the "Dunblane massacre" when a middle-aged man killed over a dozen children and a teacher (1996). Before that the UK had similar instances, but this is the one that stands out to me as sparking tougher gun control laws (it's the one I remember because I was living in Europe at the time). Looking at their crime data (gov.uk historic crime data) the number of homicides did not decrease at all with the enactment of tougher gun laws (but, excluding 2002, I'd think that the rate decreased...but assault wit intent and attempted homicide increased).

For example, in 2014-2015 the UK experienced 779,027 instances of personal violence, 88,219 sexual offenses, and 197,021 domestic burglaries, but only 4,284 instances involving a firearm.

I am, BTW not opposed to tougher firearms restrictions. But simply banning all of these types of guns won't work.

What has your Islamophobia got to do with anything?

I have no objection to the police being armed. It's all the other Toms, Dicks and Harrys I worry about

Islamophobia? You don't have it? That's why your country is being over-run. Have fun with the beheadings and the "sharia law".

And at the same time these governments have completely ignored the Magna Carta, which I believe is supposed to guarantee your right to bear arms. You folks are now not even allowed to own 5 shot revolvers and I read time after time stories of people getting stabbed to death IN THEIR OWN HOMES and they are unable to fight back. How about al the shootings I also hear about in "gun free" Britain? Do I have to also mention all the acid attacks that now are now a routine occurrence too? Your society is as violent and dangerous as my own.

There have been a couple of cases where the victim was arrested, charged and brought to trial. Thankfully here in America most incidents of that type don't get that far.

I know it's hard for you to understand our relationship with guns. We had to use them to drive a certain foreign power from our shores when they would not leave peaceably. They were an integral part of the expansion of the nation by settlers, first on the East Coast in the late 1600's and 1700's, and then out into the western lands. We view them as a tool to be used in everyday day life from hunting, self-defense, and plain old target shooting and plinking at cans.

Firearms are estimated to be used over a million times yearly for self defense in this nation and the places with most of the illegal use of them are in the cities with the highest forms of gun controls. Being a realistic person, I think that this time there just might be some additional laws concerning these weapons which in the end will do little to stop any more shootings. With millions of guns in circulation the cat is out of the bag on this issue and that is the reality. We need to harden the school environment and that could mean arming teachers, metal detectors, other armed personnel, and limiting entering and leaving areas.

The fact is from easily accessible abortions, to violent video games and movies our nation has indeed become a culture of death. Add to that the removal of God from our schools, rampant mental illness and drug use, broken families, and a lack of respect for authority and the nation at large and we have some serious problems that is for sure.

Look at Venezuela where the people are unable to rid themselves of a despotic regime despite trying the peaceful voting route. The authorities have all the guns and the people don't - and that is the end of the story.

I agree. Citizens are going hungry, crime has risen through the roof, and people are trying leave in droves. It isn't the end of the story though; give it time and the government will begin killing their own people.

Some Nazis and associated far right nuts have it but most normal people here treat Muslims as the decent human beings they are

Sir, I'm not referring to human beings as such: I'm talking about a religion. I raise and sell sheep for slaughter and have had direct business dealings with more Muslims, than I can count. Every single one of them would tell you, many being repeat customers, that my Wife and I have treated them with respect, friendliness and hospitality and they have treated us the same. But that doesn't change the fact that the Muslim religion is dangerous.
