One day, the whole world will stand before God. Many will say unto Jesus, "Lord, Lord did we not do...?" But he in return will profess, "Depart from me, I never knew you..."

    Lord, Lord...

Many shall come in that day and say but Lord, Lord. That would indicate there are those who think they are saved, who may even believe they are save, but who in all reality are not. Its interesting. The truly saved man is saved, period. But the evidence of our salvation is in the living of our lives, is it not? If we stand and proclaim His Kingdom from one side of our mouth, while our hans steal, and the other side of our mouth spreads lies, than Salvation is most likely not in our hearts. It will be a very sad day for those men and women who are numbered with goats. The Word of God is clear, in Heaven there will be no thieves, no liars and no murderers.

If Christ lives within you - how can you live a life that does not do the things He commands you to do? He does not command you to call attention to yourself. He commands you to love others.

    Matthew 7:21
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

What if he is talking about His literal kingdom, when He comes to reign on this earth? Christians will be the ones standing before Him saying Lord, Lord. We will be rewarded for our works, whether they are good or bad.

Exactly my point, If the Love of Christ Jesus dwells in your heart, you follow his commandments, but still there are many who profess Christ and refuse to love others, and who refuse to follow His commandments. God searches the hearts of men and He knows when a person prays the salvation prayer, if their committment is real, still there are many who feel they can fool Him, many of these same individuals can even be found in positions of leadership, and that is evidenced by the chill that runs through many churches, the legalism, the unChristlike behaviour we see amongst our brothers and sisters, the lack of real committment to become a part and the cold sholder we see given to some. And that is why it is so important that we fill our hearts with the Word of God, the Love of Christ, the forgiveness of Christ and our lives with His sacrifice, that we might become a living example and a witness that needs no words to share the love of Christ. If people cant see Jesus in you, than something is wrong in your life. We are after all called to be recreated spiritually in His image.

    Dear Bro. Dallas Eaton,
You have a Baptist only forum, but where is the Christian only forum? Does baptist automatically mean someone is a Christian? Sir, I am not a Baptist, strictly because that is organized religion, not Christianity. When someone asks me what I am, I tell them I am a Christian (I follow Jesus, and the Bible is my authority for doctrine, KJV), not Baptist, Catholic, Mormon, Lutheran, Presbyterian, etc. However, I do attend a Baptist church mostly because their doctrine is closer to the teachings of the Bible than any other organized religion. Jesus Christ is the way the truth and the life, not Baptist religion. For more, please visit my website to understand what I mean:

I don't mind you posting my thread in another forum, however, if you could retain my original message (with the link to the article "Lord, Lord.."), I would greatly appreciate it. This post does not require a response. I am willing to cooperate with the rules. I apologize for any disrespect. I understand that my request may, and possibly, will be denied. Thank you.

The person who says, "Lord, Lord . . ." sincerely believes what he says?

"(I follow Jesus, and the Bible is my authority for doctrine, KJV)"

Then you are a "King James Onlyist" "I only believe Jesus (the Bible, whatever) is a (man made) creed.

    To All,

bmerr here. Something to consider concerning Matt 7:21-23 is that these people had been doing "many wonderful works" in Jesus' name. Many seem to think that they can do anything they think is "good" and slap Jesus' name on it, thus serving the Lord. There are even some who claim to be "strippers for Jesus"!! Shall we do evil that good may come...?

Undoubtedly, there are many religious folks who really do many good works, including disaster relief, feeding the poor, sheltering abused women, etc. These are people who likely refer to Jesus as "Lord".

The people Jesus speaks of in Matt 7 called Him "Lord, Lord". They knew Who He was. The problem is that He never knew them.

To illustrate, it's as though these folks are crossing home plate, thinking they've scored a home run, when the Umpire calls them "OUT!!!" As it turns out, their hit had gone into foul territoy, and in their enthusiasm, they never heeded the Umpires' call that they had missed the mark. They just ran around the bases for all they were worth, only to find that their efforts had been in vain.

We need to be sure we've followed God's plan of salvation, and not one devised by well-meaning but deceiving men. The book of Acts is in part a book of conversions. Study these accounts. Compare them to each other. See what similarities there are. Make note of the differences, and the circumstances involved.

In each of the recorded accounts, I have seen a pattern of preaching, followed by faith, repentance, and baptism. One records one's confession of Christ as the Son of God (Acts 8:37). One records the Holy Spirit being poured out before the word had been preached, and thus, before faith (Acts 10:34-48; 11:15-17).

Please know that I am not trying to push "church of Christ doctrine". I am trying to direct your attention to the Bible to see how men were converted under the direction of the apostles in the first century. It seems reasonable that if we want to be what they were (simply Christians), then we need to believe what they were taught, and do what they did.

We must all lay aside the doctrines and creeds of men. The Bible only will make Christians only.

    In Christ,

    bmerr

Matthew 7 21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Luke 13 24Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. 25When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: 26Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. 27But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.

Iniquity - 1. the condition of without law
    a. because ignorant of it
    b. because of violating it

    2. contempt and violation of law, iniquity, wickedness

These people claim to belong to Jesus, but they do not obey him. They will not keep the commandments of God. Though they claim to belong to Jesus, they knowingly, and willfully violate the law of God.

Bye for now. Y. b. in C. Keith

I do not know why so many Christians struggle with Matthew 7:21. Jesus is not talking about Christians here. Verse 15 makes that specifically clear. He is speaking to Christians about false prophets and declares that even though these false prophets will try to point to their speaches and works in the name of Jesus for justification it will not save them because they never been born of God. These false prophets will lure away many true believers but the false prophet him or herself has not been saved.

    God Bless!

Context tells us this passage deals with false professors, not false prophets, per se.

Notice the difference between Matthew 7:23 and John 10:27. In the first reference Jesus says, 'I NEVER knew them' and in the latter reference our Lord says, 'I KNOW them, and they follow Me . . . '

Jesus being Omniscient always knows who have received His Son [John 3:16 & I John 5:12]. To those who refuse the Son He will say, 'I NEVER knew you.'

To those who are in a backslidden spiritual condition, Jesus can never say to them, 'I NEVER knew you.' Notice that some will be ashamed at Jesus coming for the church is duly stated in I John 2:28. Some true believes will be saved by 'the skin of the teeth,'barely [I Corinthians 3:11-15] and because of His irrevocable, irreversible matchless grace.

In the Matthew passage Jesus is merely quoting their defense that they were Christians. But, did they actually 'cast out demons?' It is easy to speculate but almost impossible to prove.

    All,

bmerr here.An important thing to consider here is that those calling out "Lord, Lord" obviously thought they were Christians, but found out too late that they were not.

No doubt this group will include false teachers, (prophets), as well as those deceived by them (professors). Each man has the responsibility to "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good" (1 Thes 5:21).

The sad reality is that many trust the word of religious men more than they trust the word of God. For example, multitudes of people put their faith in the word of the Pope, and his supposed "infallibility", while being largely ignorant of what is written in the inerrant Word of God.

To my knowledge, there will be one of three things heard by Man at the Judgement.

    - "I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity" (Matt 7:23) - The religious lost, the rank heathen, "good people" who never saw their need for Christ

    - "Well done, good and faithful servant...enter thou into the joy of thy lord" (Matt 25:21, 23) - Those who obeyed the gospel and lived faithfully unto death

    - "Thou wicked and slothful servant...cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth" (Matt 25:26-30) - Those who obeyed the gospel but were fearful and unbelieving, unwilling to pay the cost to be a faithful Christian

We must all investigate what we believe and why, and be willing to abandon those beliefs that conflict with Scripture. Only the truth will set us free, and it can only do so if we know it (John 8:32).

    In Christ,

    bmerr

This is not the "obvious" at all. The passage is specifically clear that Jesus is speaking about false prophets. This is why Jesus says " beware of false prophets " (vs 15). That isn't to difficult is it? They are wolfs in sheeps clothing. They are "professing" to be Christians but are not, they only want to profit from what they see in a true Christian's beliefs and kindness. They do not think they are Christians, they know they are not, but with the axe laid at their roots they are pleading for self justification, pointing to their works in the Lord's name. Wouldn't you if you found yourself at the end of your rope?

The obvious is written out so we do not need to add our own opinion as of whom Jesus is speaking of.

    God Bless!
