    Manzanas y naranjas.

    I am not a Landmark Baptist. Baptists opposed the papacy just as much as the early Reformers. Yes. Baptists were persecuted by early paedobaptists but that does not change the substance of the discussion.

    You can call yourself a flightless cormorant if you wish.

    As far as soul liberty, it does not alter history, only how you respond to it.

    All earthly history books will burn up in a great conflagration.
    The only history book I trust completely is the Bible and it will never pass away..

    Flightless cormorant?

    Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

    OK, I'll do it:

    10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the author of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
    11 For both he that sanctifieth and they that are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,
    12 saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, In the midst of the congregation will I sing thy praise.
    13 And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold, I and the children whom God hath given me.
    14 Since then the children are sharers in flesh and blood, he also himself in like manner partook of the same; that through death he might bring to nought him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
    15 and might deliver all them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. Heb 2

    16 For dogs have compassed me: A company of evil-doers have inclosed me; They pierced my hands and my feet.
    17 I may count all my bones; They look and stare upon me.
    18 They part my garments among them, And upon my vesture do they cast lots.
    19 But be not thou far off, O Jehovah: O thou my succor, haste thee to help me.
    20 Deliver my soul from the sword, My darling from the power of the dog.
    21 Save me from the lion`s mouth; Yea, from the horns of the wild-oxen thou hast answered me.
    22 I will declare thy name unto my brethren: In the midst of the assembly will I praise thee.
    23 Ye that fear Jehovah, praise him; All ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; And stand in awe of him, all ye the seed of Israel. Ps 22

    What is it that causes you to think the writer of Hebrews is playing "fast and loose" with Ps 22?

    Psalm 22:1-21
    For the choir director; upon [fn]Aijeleth Hashshahar. A Psalm of David.

    1 My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?
    [fn]Far from my deliverance are the words of my [fn]groaning.
    2 O my God, I cry by day, but You do not answer;
    And by night, but [fn]I have no rest.
    3 Yet You are holy,
    O You who [fn]are enthroned upon the praises of Israel.
    4 In You our fathers trusted;
    They trusted and You delivered them.
    5 To You they cried out and were delivered;
    In You they trusted and were not [fn]disappointed.
    6 But I am a worm and not a man,
    A reproach of men and despised by the people.
    7 All who see me [fn]sneer at me;
    They [fn]separate with the lip, they wag the head, saying,
    8 “[fn]Commit yourself to the LORD; let Him deliver him;
    Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him.”

    9 Yet You are He who brought me forth from the womb;
    You made me trust when upon my mother’s breasts.
    10 Upon You I was cast from [fn]birth;
    You have been my God from my mother’s womb.

    11 Be not far from me, for [fn]trouble is near;
    For there is none to help.
    12 Many bulls have surrounded me;
    Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me.
    13 They open wide their mouth at me,
    As a ravening and a roaring lion.
    14 I am poured out like water,
    And all my bones are out of joint;
    My heart is like wax;
    It is melted within [fn]me.
    15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd,
    And my tongue cleaves to my jaws;
    And You lay me [fn]in the dust of death.
    16 For dogs have surrounded me;
    [fn]A band of evildoers has encompassed me;
    [fn]They pierced my hands and my feet.
    17 I can count all my bones.
    They look, they stare at me;
    18 They divide my garments among them,
    And for my clothing they cast lots.

    19 But You, O LORD, be not far off;
    O You my help, hasten to my assistance.
    20 Deliver my [fn]soul from the sword,
    My only life from the [fn]power of the dog.
    21 Save me from the lion’s mouth;
    From the horns of the wild oxen You answer me.

    Was David talking about himself or someone else?

    Psalm 22:22-24
    22 I will tell of Your name to my brethren;
    In the midst of the assembly I will praise You.
    23 You who fear the LORD, praise Him;
    All you [fn]descendants of Jacob, glorify Him,
    And stand in awe of Him, all you [fn]descendants of Israel.
    24 For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted;
    Nor has He hidden His face from him;
    But when he cried to Him for help, He heard.

    Psalm 22:22 is a pledge by David to praise God by telling his fellow Israelites how God has delivered him.

    Hebrews 2:10-12
    10 For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the [fn]author of their salvation through sufferings. 11 For both He who sanctifies and those who are [fn]sanctified are all from one Father; for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, 12 saying,
    “I WILL PROCLAIM YOUR NAME TO MY BRETHREN,
    IN THE MIDST OF THE CONGREGATION I WILL SING YOUR PRAISE.”

    Hebrews 2:12 describes JESUS proclaiming God's name to men (as His brother) and has Jesus singing the praise of God. Do you think that is the most likely literal meaning of the intent of David when he wrote Psalm 22:22?

    Hebrews is a master of 'typologies' rather than literal meanings (imho). That was the only point that I was making. If you think that David wrote Psalm 22 about Jesus singing to God, then nothing I say will change your mind and ...

    God Bless.

    Ps 22 is one of many Messianic Psalms quoted from in several NT books.

    Christ is doing this now, today, through the proclamation of the gospel to His church.

    That's a deep question. I don't know. I suspect that David, as prophet, was left wondering about a lot of mysteries similar to Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:2-3.

    Well you're kinda sorta preaching to the choir here then, I love the types, and the Bible is loaded with them throughout. Hebrews simply reveals a few of them.

    As already stated, I don't know what David understood about the things he wrote. Did David ever have his hands and feet pierced as stated in the Psalm? Don't you think he wondered why he was moved to write those sort of things down? I think a whole lot of what he wrote was pure mystery to him as was the case with all the prophets. David was prophet AND king, you know.

    Just finished taking a 3 credit course in Hermeneutics and appreciate what is involved in exegesis of Scripture. However, there are still problems as we all have our bias and prejudices and follow the dictates of our denominations. And that is why I believe scripture should drive our interpretations of Scripture. All too often we see especially in some Baptist denominations, views that are clearly wrong and often hurtful. For instance, they often elect someone to a church office that has a low IQ, but pass over someone that can better do the job and more dedicated simply because he or she had a failed marriage back in their teenage years and committed the most heinous of all sins, i.e. they re-married. All too often some denominations brand those that remarried after a divorce as being polygamist and simply drive them out of their church or permit them simply to have no viable ministry. Such as discriminate against their brothers and sisters in Christ are hateful and harmful.

    I believe that anyone who truly believes in the Bible and walks with the Lord will suffer persecution regardless of their denominational affiliation. The problem is that of misinterpretation of Scripture as some believe that they have the truth and the faith that was once and for all must be defended at all cost. Jude 4 NEB - "Certain individuals have wormed their way in, the very people whom scripture long ago marked down for the sentence they are now incurring. They are enemies of religion; they pervert the free favour of our God into licentiousness, disowning Jesus Christ our only Master and Lord."

    OR do you avoid quoting it altogether ?

    Is it better to simply engage in "creative writing" than to pay close attention to what the Bible actually says?

    I think we all agree it is better to pay attention to the Bible details.

    Well stated. Pick on spelling to obfuscate the issue so no one will see we have no real rebuttal.

    One of the most misinterpreted scriptures is 2 Peter 3:9, most fail to notice who the subject is, it's the Beloved, NOT all humans, the "US" is also the Beloved..

    2Pe 3:1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
    2Pe 3:2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
    2Pe 3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
    2Pe 3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
    2Pe 3:5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
    2Pe 3:6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
    2Pe 3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
    2Pe 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
    2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
