    Good morning -

Our reading in Mark yesterday told the story of the Pharisees accusing Christ of being in league with Satan. This particular Gospel gives the explanation of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit in verse 30. By saying that the healing acts performed by the Holy Spirit were of the devil, the Pharisees had doomed themselves. Their statements were not made from ignorance, but rather as a slanderous ploy to turn the people from Christ's teachings.

In 1Corinthians, Paul answers questions that the church had inquired of him concerning sex. Paul here clearly states that sex is to be within the bonds of marriage and that the husband and wife have a duty to each other in the area of gratification. This helps to insure monogamy.
Paul also explores the topic of divorce in this passage. Each time the New Testament scriptures speak of divorce, we are told that it is wrong, but there is always an escape clause. In Matthew, Christ says that marital unfaithfulness is justification for divorce and here in 1Corinthians, Paul speaks of abandonment.
There had been a thread in the pastor's forum on divorce which you may find enlightening: http://www.baptistboard.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=12&t=000078&p=

    May God bless you

Corinthians: are these verses what the Catholics use as justification for celibacy of priests?
