    Good morning -

Today, I feel I have caught up on everything and my post tonight will be on time.

I'm going to wait on my commentary for 1Corinthians until this evening on the qualifications and rights of an apostle, and our story in Mark yesterday was of the legion of demons possessing the poor man in Gerasenes. This story will be reiterated in Luke and had been touched on in Matthew. Mark approaches the story in a more human way with his description of the man's condition.

Really what I want to focus on today is the Book we started yesterday, Judges. Judges is about a period of time for the Jews when they had no king and they were past the time of the Patriarchs and Moses, Joshua and his elders. Understanding some of the literary style of this book beforehand will give one a deeper understanding of it.

I wish I had time and ability and copyright permission to type out the NIV synopsis on this book. I did find one site that I would encourage everyone to read before proceeding. http://www.hope.edu/academic/religion/bandstra/RTOT/CH7/CH7_3.HTM

There were 12 Judges: Othniel, Ehud, Shamgar, Deborah, Gideon, Tola, Jair, Jephthah, Ibzam, Elon, Abdon, and Samson. They were all people calledon by God to restore the relationship of God to Israel. As the readings go by, I will try to add a few points of interest to this reading by pointing out literary style and positioning. For yesterday's reading, chapter 1 through chapter 3 verse 6 was the prologue. In this you find that Israel is not so undefeatable as they had been under Joshua and their position in the Promised Land is one of warring, defeat, falling from favor, and rejoining in favor. Yesterday we met the first three judges in the body of the text of chapter 3.

It is believed that the Book of Judges was written after the fact during the times of the Kings possibly by Samuel as is attested by verses such as 17:6 which read, "In those days Israel had no king..."

I'll add some more to this by this evening.

    May God bless you

    - Clint
