The gun control mob will rage, but the true answer to this is still the same. All schools need a first response plan in place. That will either eliminate or minimize the casualties. We'll see how the President and Congress respond.

Well done to the gun lobby, another huge success for them.

I think that evil does not need a gun to kill, and also think that schools need to get staff trained and armed up to be able to put down those crazies!

i have wondered why our schools don't get at least the same protection as our airports?

Oh good grief! No one hates these killings more than us responsible gun owners. What you have here is a kid who has probably spent the vast majority of the last 15 years in front of his computer playing first person killing games. Couple that with all the violence on the television and movie screens, his unbelief in God, and having a dysfunctional family life, it's no wonder that he has become desensitized to death and violence and finally ended up committing this evil act. Not to mention that he, and only he alone is ultimately responsible for this. But in your mind it's all the "gun lobby's" fault. Yeah, right.

Meanwhile in merry old England knife crimes and acid attacks are through the roof. Are the knife manufacturers and the chemical concerns responsible for those attacks?

    Not to mention that HOLLYWOOD and its superstars are the promoters of death by gun violence;

    Why not use retired military/police?

And now this. Looks like it was a gun-free-zone.

…SCHOOL WEAPONS POLICY: FIREARMS, AMMUNITION PROHIBITED

The Substitute Teacher Handbook says, “Employees, visitors, and students, including those with a license to carry a handgun, are prohibited from bringing firearms, illegal knives, or other weapons onto school premises or any grounds or building where a school-sponsored activity takes place.”

I think they likely take it into account. They're crazy, but usually not stupid. Doesn't matter either way if you shoot them before they can shoot anyone else.

I did hear, though, the school had armed guards, so perhaps it wasn't a gun free zone.

The radio report I heard said that there were 2 police officers on campus who responded nearly instantly, but I can't find any mention of them in other news articles. Anyone know?

As for how the President and congress will respond, they will first tweet inane platitudes and something about prayers like Ted Cruz has. The trolling on his twitter feed will likely go on for a week.

After the Florida shooting President Trump said, "I like taking guns away early. Take the guns first, go through due process later." So maybe that's his plan.

The liberal politicians stripping God from our schools have the blood on their hands.
Guns were in this nation since the beginning. We did not have school shootings until "Thou shalt not kill" was ripped from the school walls.

Don't forget the Hollywood contribution to death by firearms which doesn't help e.g. The John Wick Series (John Wick 3 upcoming) intense fictionalized violence.

If entertainment via murder and/or violence movies makes money - why is that OK with both the liberal and conservative world?

I must admit that there is a fascination for me with some of these "action movies".

The issue of video games keeps coming up as well.

Why is violence allowed in the sphere of "entertainment"?.
Historical movies of war and/or bloodshed are one thing but fictionalized slaughter?

I suppose the Bible could be called violent in many places.

Putting more gunmen out there to cut down gun crime is as crazy as it gets.

That idiot Trump, thinks that the answer to knife crime on our streets is guns.

There was a report on the news earlier, it must have been yesterday, as I was avoiding the wedding which filled the other news channels today, that said there were more killed in school shootings in the US this year than in the military, in action and not in action.

Same as an airport would be a bit much, I think.

My son's high school has only two entrances to enter and exit. They are guarded by police for a half hour before school starts and a half hour after school starts. These are double doors, that is, two doors with a ten foot space in between the doors. After the police leave the doors are locked to outsiders.

There are cameras covering the inside, outside, and space between these doors. Lockers are subject to searches at any time, for any reason.
