Featured Sunday School teacher question

I was just wondering if /why Baptists allow women missionaries to teach and lead overseas, but not here?

 

Do you know female missionaries who do both out in the mission field?

 

I have taught ladies Sunday School classes and Bible studies for many years in both Independent and Southern Baptist churches, but never a mixed class.

 

What we need in churches is faithful, doctrinal, sound, "sober, grave and temperate" older men, mentoring and teaching younger men how to be godly husbands and fathers and we need holy older women teaching young women how to be "proverbs 31" wives and mothers. There would be many more stable and happy homes if we did. and some of the things which need teaching are not suited for "mixed class". Know what I'm saying?

But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:

2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.

3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

6 Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.

7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,

8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

 

Solution:?

If it is obvious that a woman has been given a gift of wisdom/understanding then let her author a book specifically for other women.

If a man or men want to have the book for their own edification - Fine.

Pauline epistle qualifies the subject very plainly and exact? I don’t get the confusion.......

1 Timothy 2:12 King James Version (KJV) 12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

It is speaking of "teaching men" and "usurping authority over men". Because Titus 2, as posted above, also commands "aged women" to "teach" younger women. The "silence" part, is a command NOT to "teach nor usurp authority over the man". That is all.

 

The scripture is its best commentary, but man likes to muddy the waters so they can infuse their own doctrine, theology to suit their lifestyle and convenience.
We all do it, me included and am thankful for the Holy Spirit redirecting me back to sound doctrine if I go astray.

Are you saying God allows for women to teach in church?

 

Is it different in a Church setting then? As know there are women professors in Christan schools that teach mixed classes, right?

 

No, not during the "service" I am not. If they teach back in a Sunday School room teaching other women or children I am.

 

that is my understanding, that they are qualified to teach in Sunday school/children, but not as in a pastoral/Elder capacity in a local church.

 

Are these women professors teaching men and/or usurping authority over men? What does the Bible say? Does it say "only within a church setting"?

 

Do you personally know any women missionaries sent out, called by God to the Mission field without a husband, etc.?

yes, we support one who is a widow, and she is tot he Philippians, and recently headed up having a training center to teach new pastors and teachers raised up in her area over there.

 

I would be interested in what scripture she uses as the basis for her calling?
Not a woman basher......., but there is no confusion in Paul’s writing?

Maybe God had called a man to go there, but they refused, and she stepped into the opening?
Actually, I think her and her husband went there on the mission field, and he passed, she continued on their work for the Lord!

 

OK yes it is very plain and exact women can't pray, sing hymns, give a testimony or even talk to ANYONE - men, other women or children while in church "but to be in silence".
