Letter from some Southwestern Seminary supporters

They are trying to get to the bottom of the strange actions of the Trustees' Executive Committee.

 

No doubt this was going to create division but I think there may have been a sense of urgency concerning the reputation of the seminary that this letter is either not recognising or taking into account. I found myself in a private political discussion group debating Dr. Patterson's sermons, against people who should never have heard this man's name let alone the name of the seminary.

I do believe it could have waited until he was able to attend and defend himself simply because the cacophony from the left wasn't new by that point. While Patterson had no supporters in the public sphere due to no one knowing anything about him and thereby unwilling to stake their reputations on his defense, it's reasonably clear the attack on his reputation was as much a left-wing attack on a religious institution, if not more so, than it was indignance at his ideas.

As such this should have been treated with grace toward Patterson, and an extra measure of benefit of doubt. I just wouldn't have taken too long addressing it in some way
