This probably should be in a fellowship forum rather than a debate forum, but I couldn't find an appropriate forum for this topic.

I am doing a study of typology in the Old Testament. I am amazed at the types that I am finding in the book of Leviticus. I can say assuredly that I will never read the book of Leviticus the same way after this study.

I want to share a type (could be called an application) that I read recently, and then would like to hear of any types that you particularly enjoy. I am in Leviticus now, but your types certainly do not have to be limited to Leviticus.

Leviticus 14:40 Then the priest shall command that they take away the stones in which the plague is, and they shall cast them into an unclean place without the city:
41 And he shall cause the house to be scraped within round about, and they shall pour out the dust that they scrape off without the city into an unclean place:
42 And they shall take other stones, and put them in the place of those stones; and he shall take other morter, and shall plaister the house.
    43 And if the plague come again, and break out in the house, after that he hath taken away the stones, and after he hath scraped the house, and after it is plaistered;
44 Then the priest shall come and look, and, behold, if the plague be spread in the house, it is a fretting leprosy in the house: it is unclean.
45 And he shall break down the house, the stones of it, and the timber thereof, and all the morter of the house; and he shall carry them forth out of the city into an unclean place
    .

This is a type of cleansing our homes of sin. We are to discover the sins that try to creep into our homes and remove those areas (vs. 40). We are to do a total home inventory to see what we have allowed to enter our homes (books, movies, music, friends, hobbies, rebellion, etc.) that may be a negative or sinful influence (vs. 41). Once we determine what needs to be removed, we take steps to remove them and we replace them with good, godly things (vs. 42).

If the problem of sin is spread all through our home, we must take whatever steps necessary to remove to sin or sinful influences (vs. 45). This may mean moving to a new town, getting a new job, changing the school that our kids attend, finding a new church, etc.

Sadly, I have known families that refused to get extreme with sin in the home and it eventually cost them their marriage, their family, or both.

I am learning every day that the Bible is indeed an amazing Book!

We must also strengthen ourselves with internal measures.

I believe the dietary laws may speak of "clean" or kosher food.
Often times food is the earthly centerpiece of our heavenly fellowship in our local churches.

    Agree!

...food/water from above represents sound doctrine, i.e., healthful teaching, throughout The Book.

...from which we all should feed and commune and grow together. Just a very few examples for thought:

    10 For as the rain cometh down and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, and giveth seed to the sower and bread to the eater;
11 so shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
12 For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing; and all the trees of the fields shall clap their hands. Isa 55

13 Therefore my people are gone into captivity for lack of knowledge; and their honorable men are famished, and their multitude are parched with thirst. Isa 5

15 So when they had broken their fast, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of John, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
16 He saith to him again a second time, Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Tend my sheep.
17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. Jn 21

28 Take heed unto yourselves, and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit hath made you bishops, to feed the church of the Lord which he purchased with his own blood. Acts 20

20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. Rev 3

10 We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat that serve the tabernacle. Heb 13

....and there are kazillions of other examples...

Egypt is the house of bondage (to the law) [Revelation 11:8]

An excellent and astounding type at that! But concerning the Exodus motif there is the Passover lamb [1 Corinthians 5:7] and Moses as deliverer (savior) [Acts 7:34]

Good enough. The land of milk and honey. [Romans 14:17]

Types within types. Joshua and Jesus are the same name.

Thanks for sharing. I'm in Leviticus right now too. Do you think this could also represent us having impure thoughts and imaginations, like the ones Paul tells us to cast down?

I prefer not to invoke the law to provoke me to maintain a holy, separated lifestyle.

2Co 6:14 KJV - Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
2Co 6:15 KJV - And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
2Co 6:16 KJV - And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in [them]; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
2Co 6:17 KJV - Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean [thing]; and I will receive you,
2Co 6:18 KJV - And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Additionally, my spiritual challenge is: 1Co 2:16 KJV - For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

If I keep my thought-life pure, the rest will be in proper order also.

I think that application could apply to any and all sin that we allow in our lives that would affect the home. The verses prior to this in that chapter regarding leprosy in the garments may apply more to individual, personal sins.

This is why I thought the thread would be better in a fellowship forum.

No one is invoking the law. We are making application of the law by recognizing types in the Old Testament. Everything God did in the Old Testament is relevant for us today in the new.

Part of a much larger study here on A Cross the Scriptures, as study for the WTS/JW, Jew, Muslim, Atheist etc, - JW - Questions I have for a Jehovah's Witness about Prophecy and the WTS materials.

    That Tree of Life:

Deuteronomy 21:23 KJB - His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged [is] accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the LORD thy God giveth thee [for] an inheritance.

Acts 5:30 KJB - The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.

Acts 10:39 KJB - And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:

1 Corinthians 2:2 KJB - For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

Galatians 2:20 KJB - I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Galatians 6:14 KJB - But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
While the central root "stock" would be a pole-beam, there would also be the cross-beam, the 'Patiblum', which would be the "branches" coming off the root stock, and thus be a "tree" as Paul and others called it.

Even in the Footnotes of the NWT, they allow for the word "tree":

"... [Acts 5:20 NWT] The God of our forefathers raised up Jesus, whom you killed, hanging him on a stake.*n ..."; "... *Or “tree. ..." [1]

"... [Acts 10:39 NWT] And we are witnesses of all the things he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem; but they did away with him by hanging him on a stake.* ..."; "... *Or “tree. ..." [1]

"... [Acts 13:29 NWT] And when they had accomplished all the things written about him, they took him down from the stake* and laid him in a tomb.*z ..."; "... *Or “tree. ..." [1]

"... [1 Peter 2:24 NWT] He himself bore our sinsu in his own body on the stake,*v so that we might die to* sins and live to righteousness. And “by his wounds you were healed.”w ..."; "... *Or “tree. ..." [1]

    Other mentions:

"... [Joshua 8:29 NWT] He hung the king of Aʹi on a stake* until the evening, and as the sun was about to set, Joshua gave the order to take his dead body down from the stake.v Then they pitched it at the entrance of the city gate and raised up a great pile of stones over him, which is there to this day. ..."; "... *Or “tree. ..." [1]

"... [2 Samuel 18:9,10,14 NWT] 9 Abʹsa·lom eventually found himself facing the servants of David. Abʹsa·lom was riding on a mule, and the mule went under the thick branches of a large tree, and his head got entangled in the big tree, so that he was suspended in midair* while the mule he had been riding kept going.

10 Then someone saw it and told Joʹab:l “Look! I have seen Abʹsa·lom hanging in a big tree.”

14 To this Joʹab said: “I am not going to waste any more time with you!” So he took three spikes* in his hand and drove them through the heart of Abʹsa·lom while he was still alive in the midst of the big tree. ..." [1]

In the Typology of 2 Samuel 18:9,10,14 KJB, we read of Absalom [the son of David; whose name means the "Father's peace"] was, because of sin, rebellion against the King, hung upon a tree [by his hair, his glory], and was suspended between Heven and Earth, and struck with three piercings, or as the NWT says, "three spikes", as large nails, and then in his death buried as wicked.

2 Samuel 18:9 KJB - And Absalom met the servants of David. And Absalom rode upon a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was taken up between the heaven and the earth; and the mule that was under him went away.

2 Samuel 18:10 KJB - And a certain man saw it, and told Joab, and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanged in an oak.

2 Samuel 18:14 KJB - Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with thee. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.

Just as Jesus, who took our sins upon himself, was hung upon a Tree, the son of David, the Father's peace towards man, suspended between Heaven and Earth, pierced by three nails upon the Cross, then in His death, taken down and buried as with the wicked [Isaiah 53:9 KJB].

Wanted to add a thought to the previous, in that hair was not only a glory [1 Corinthians 11:15 KJB], but for a man to have long hair it was a shame [1 Corinthians 11:14 KJB], such as the nazarites wore, symbolizing the shamefulness of sin, the hair of separation, and the holiness of life dedicated to God in repentance, and Christ Jesus died upon the cruel cross, despising the shame [Hebrews 12:2 KJB], having already made the nazarite vow [Matthew 26:29; Mark 14:25; Luke 22:18; Numbers 6:1-21 KJB].

For those who like to read of types and shadows in the Old Testament like I do... I love that type of preaching and teaching... I would recommend A. W. Pink's Gleanings Series and I'm sure many have heard of him and maybe some have not... Also I have a small book at home, probably picked it up somewhere, called Seeing Christ In The Tabernacle by Ervin N. Hershberger... Another one is Seeing Christ In The Old Testament and I believe a lot of these I mentioned are in pdf format... The following link is The Pink Collection of 50 books... You can order online if you've a mind to... Only cost you about $15.00, is that a deal or what?... Glad to help you brethren out... That's what were here for, right?... Brother Glen:)

We see than Haman was a man that demanded worship and wished that the Jews be destroyed. He accused God’s people of not following the king’s Law. And for this, the Jews were condemned (everyone of them) by a law that could not be changed – not even by the King himself! Every Jew, male or female, young or old was to be killed in one day. And the king said to Haman, The silver is given to thee, the people also to do with them as it seemeth good to thee.” Esther 3:11

Similarly, we also know that Lucifer was a being that demanded worship and wished that God’s people be destroyed. He accused God’s people of not following God’s Law. God’s people were condemned (everyone of them) by a Law that cannot change – not even by the King of the Universe himself! Every human being was destined to be destroyed on that fateful day of judgment. As man rejected God – God was forced to give them over to Satan to do with man as it seemeth good to him.

Mordecai the one who has guided Esther in her formidable years asked Esther to intercede on behalf of her people even though she had not been in the presence of the king for 30 days. She struggled with this decision because it was against the law to appear in the inner court of the king without being asked. However, only she, because of both her connection to the king, and her Jewish ancestry stood a hope of successfully pleading for the life of her people that she loved dearly. But one slip up or mistake would cost her her life and the salvation of her people.

Similarly, the Holy Spirit is the one who was with Jesus Christ in His early years and guided Jesus in all things. The Holy Spirit lead Jesus just before his baptism to intercede on behalf of His people even though He had not been in the presence of the Father for 30 years. He struggled with this decision because it is against the law to appear in the inner court of the heavenly sanctuary and have sin found in Him. Yes, only He, both because of His connection to the King being the only begotten Son of God and being fully Man in every way could successfully plead for the life of His people that He loved dearly. But one slip up or mistake will cost Him his eternal life and the salvation of His people

On Nisan 14 (the fourteenth day of the first month), after her pleading with Mordecai, Esther resigns to die for her people if necessary and has the women with her fast and pray with her for three days on Nisan 14, 15, and 16 – She understands that she could risk her life in vain.

Similarly, on Nisan 14 (the fourteenth day of the first month), after His pleading with the Holy Spirit, Jesus resigns to die for His people, and has His disciples pray with him. Jesus does die on Nisan 14 and does not eat for three days on Nisan 14, 15 and 16. He understands that He could risk His life in vain.

On Nisan 16 after 3 days, Esther rises up and puts on her royal robes and ascends into the room right before the king’s throne room. She is accepted in that room of the palace in the presence of the king. It was here that if she did not find favor with the king, she would be killed before she could enter through the door into his throne room if she was not accepted. She was there with one purpose: To plead for the lives of her people against a law that could not be changed.

Similarly, on Nisan 16 after 3 days, Jesus rises up and puts on His royal robes and ascends into heaven into the Holy Place right before the God’s throne room. His sacrifice is accepted in the Holy Place. He was there with one purpose: To plead for the lives of His people against a law that could not be changed.

I very much agree with everything you've said as long as it's not other people coming in imposing their convictions on the other. Not talking about what's considered gross stark sins as adultery or stealing or this or that...one may need a Christian to instruct them on such....but a lot of those things you've mentioned are grey areas. What exactly is sin...to some it is certain things...to others not so much. There are times when one's own conscience needs to be their guide with them praying to the Lord as to what is right, wrong or appropriate for their lives.

14 He will redeem them from oppression and violence,
for their lives are precious in his sight.
    17 May his name endure forever;
as long as the sun shines,
    may his fame increase.
May all nations be blessed by him
    and call him blessed.

Adam the first, and Adam the second/last (Christ Jesus) (and even Eve, the "mother of all living", and the New Jersualem "the mother" of "all living" in Christ Jesus). Adam ('the first') is specifically called "the figure of him that was to come") Christ Jesus.

Romans 5:14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
The word "figure" in the Koine Greek TR, is [G5179], "τυπος", "tupos", or in English, "Type".

    Tupos = type, pattern. Strong's G5179 - https://www.blueletterbible.org/lang...gs=G5179&t=KJB

See Romans 5:14 KJB, Adam was the "figure" of Him who was to come.

See 1 Corinthians 10:6,11 KJB "ensample/s" is the tupos, of that which we are to learn from, the "pattern".

    Skia = shadow, not the substance. Strong's G4639 - https://www.blueletterbible.org/lang...gs=G4639&t=KJB

See Colossians 2:17 KJB, shadow of the types, see Hebrews 10:1 KJB

See Hebrews 8:5 KJB, earthly priests and High Priests, but a type pointing to Christ Jesus own Priesthood and High Priesthood

See Hebrews 10:1 KJB, shadow of the types, see Colossians 2:17 KJB

    AntiTupos
    = antitype, reality which is greater than the type/shadow. Strong's G499 - https://www.blueletterbible.org/lang...ngs=G499&t=KJB

See Hebrews 9:24 KJB: “For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, [which are] the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:"

see also 1 Peter 3:21 KJB.

This is repeated in 1 Corinthians 15:44-47

1 Corinthians 15:44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

1 Corinthians 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

1 Corinthians 15:46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.

1 Corinthians 15:47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.
Adam (Genesis 1:26, "אדם", "ADM", Adam) is thus the "first man", and Jesus Christ is the "last Adam" (1 Corinthians 15:45), "the second man" (1 Corinthians 15:47), being "the LORD (ie. Kurios, the JEHOVAH Immanuel, JEHOVAH Jesus) from heaven."

Adam the first was a unique son of God (Luke 3:38) (created), and the second man, the last Adam, Jesus is a unique Son of God (Matthew 14:33, 16:16; John 10:30, etc) (unCreated and Eternal only begotten of the Father, though His earthly body was created (Hebrews 10:5)).

    Adam was given "dominion" (Genesis 1:26,28; Micah 4:8) and Jesus likewise (Psalms 110:1; Daniel 7:14; Matthew 22:44, 28:28; Mark 12:36; Luke 10:22, 20:43; John 17:2; Ephesians 1:21; Hebrews 1:13, 10:13, etc).

Adam begins with glorious body of flesh (Psalms 8:5) and through sin, the light goes out and is left naked, and ashamed (Genesis 3:10) with sinful fallen flesh (Romans 8:3), and Christ Jesus is born (Luke 1:35) of Mary (flesh; John 3:6) by the Holy Ghost (spirit), begins with the likeness of fallen sinful flesh (does not make Him a sinner, see 1 John 3:4) as we have (Matthew 1:1-18; Luke 3:23-38; John 7:42; Romans 1:3; 2 Timothy 2:8; Hebrews 2:16, etc.), but becomes glorified (permanently) when Resurrected (John 12:16, 17:5; Acts 3:13; Philippians 3:21; Revelation 1:13-20, etc).

Adam went to sleep on the 6th day (Genesis 2:21) and Jesus went to sleep on the 6th day (Matthew 28:6; Mark 15:37,39; Luke 23:46).

Adam was to keep the 7th day with God (Mark 2:27; Genesis 2:1-3; Exodus 20:8-11, etc), Jesus kept the 7th Day (Luke 4:16; Mark 2:27-28), even in death (Luke 23:54-56, 24:1-2).

Adam's side was opened (Genesis 2:21) and Jesus' side was opened (John 19:34; 1 John 5:6,8).

From the side of Adam comes his bride/wife, Eve, bone of his bones, flesh of his flesh (Genesis 2:21-25) and from the side of Christ Jesus comes the church (Ephesians 5:22-33).

Adam was in a garden (Genesis 2:7-8) and Jesus was in several gardens (Genesis 3:8; John 18:1,26, 19:41; Revelation 2:7).

Adam has many sons and daughters (Genesis 5:4) and Jesus (true Israel; Matthew 2:13-15; Hosea 11:1) has many sons and daughters (Hebrews 2:9-18 (vs 13); Isaiah 8:8-20 (vs 18)).

Adam died (Genesis 2:17; Psalms 90:4; 2 Peter 3:8; Genesis 5:5) because of sin and Jesus died because of our sins (Revelation 5:6,12, 13:8; Matthew 28:6; Mark 15:37,39; Luke 23:46; 2 Corinthians 5:21).

Adam was cast out of the garden into a wilderness (Genesis 3:24) and Jesus overcame in a wildernes to enter the Garden (Matthew 4:1; Mark 1:13; Luke 4:1).

Adam was made in the "image of God" (Genesis 1:26-27), Jesus is the "express image" of His Father (Hebrews 1:3).

Adam came death upon all men (1 Corinthians 15:21-22), Jesus came the resurrection to eternal life to all who would believe (1 Corinthians 15:21-22).

    Adam gave names (Genesis 2:20), Jesus gave names (Genesis 17:5,15, 32:28, 35:10; 2 Samuel 12:25; Nehemiah 9:7; Matthew 4:18; Mark 3:16,17; Luke 6:14, etc.)

Adam and the tree (Genesis 2:16,17), Jesus and the tree (Deuteronomy 21:22-23; Acts 5:30, 10:39, 13:29; Galatians 3:13; 1 Peter 2:24, etc.).

Adam was naked for sin (Genesis 3:10), Jesus was naked for our sins (Hebrews 12:2).

Adam and the slain lamb (Genesis 3:21; Revelation 13:8), Jesus is the Lamb slain for Adam (John 1:29, 36; 1 Corinthians 5:7; Revelation 5:6, 13:8).

Adam and the two types (Cain (wicked/lost) and Abel (righteous (by faith)/saved); Genesis 4:1-17), Jesus and the two types also (Sheep and Goats (Matthew 25:31-46), Wheats and Tares (Matthew 13:24-30,38), Wise and Foolish (Matthew 25:1-13)).

    Adam tempted (Genesis 3:6) (lost/found), Jesus tempted (Matthew 4:1, 22:18; Mark 12:5; Luke 4:2, 20;23, etc) (victorious) (John 16:33).

    Adam priest of the house (Genesis 3:5; Exodus 4:16; Deuteronomy 10:17; Joshua 22:22; Psalms 82:1,6, 95:3, 97:7, 136:2, 138:1; Daniel 2:47, 11:36; John 10:34-35), Jesus high priest over all the house (whose house are we)(Hebrews 3:1, 4:14-15, 5:5, 6:20, 7:26. 8:1,3, 9:11, 10:21).

Originally “Oshea” (Numbers 13:8,16), aka “Hoshea” (Deuteronomy 32:44) (both of which mean “deliverer”) is later named “Jehoshua” (Numbers 13:16; 1 Chronicles 7:27), aka “Joshua” (Deuteronomy 34:9; 1 Kings 16:34) (both of which means “JEHOVAH is salvation/saviour”), aka “Jesus” (dualistic: Acts 7:45; Hebrews 4:8), and the Son of God is also named “Jesus” (Matthew 1:21,25; Luke 1:31, 2:21; (dualistic:) Acts 7:45; Hebrews 4:8), for it means, “he shall save his people from their sins.” (Matthew1:21) for he is, JEHOVAH E/Immanuel the Saviour (Psalms 46:7,11; Isaiah 7:14, 8:8,10; Matthew 1:23; Acts 13:23; Philippians 3:20; 2 Timothy 1:10; Titus 1:4, 2:13, 3:6; 2 Peter 1:1,11, 2:20, 3:18, etc), and in the OT, is also named “salvation”, aka [H3444] “yeshû‛âh” (Genesis 49:18; Exodus 14:13; 2 Chronicles 20:17; Jonah 2:9; Psalms 119:174).

Joshua (the son of Nun (Non) (Numbers 13:8,16; Deuteronomy 32:44, 34:9; 1 Kings 16:34; 1 Chronicles 7:27), and “Nun/Non” means “perpetuity” (forever, eternal)) and so Jesus is the Son of the eternal Father (Mark 14:61; John 6:69, 10:36, etc).

    Joshua
served/ministered (Exodus 17:9-10, 24:13, 33:11; Numbers 11:28; Joshua 1:1, 14:7) under the elder Moses (as “god” to Pharaoh (Exodus 7:1), and whose face shone as the light (Exodus 34:29-30,35; 2 Corinthians 3:7,13), and whose hair was hoary/white (Leviticus 19:32), and whose name 'Moses', means to be from the midst of the waters (Exodus 2:10), and was very old, “his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.” (Deuteronomy 34:7)) and Jesus also ministered (Matthew 20:26,28; Mark 10:43,45; Romans 15:8; Hebrews 8:2) under His Father's instruction (Proverbs 8:22-36; John 5:30, John 17:4,8,14,16), who is “God” (Genesis 1:1; Jeremiah 10:10; John 1:1,18, 5:18, 6:27, 17:3; 1 Thessalonians 1:9; 1 John 5:20, etc), whose face shines as the light (Revelation 4:3), and whose hair is hoary/white (Daniel 7:9), and dwells amidst the waters (Job 9:8; Psalms 18:11, 29:3, 77:19, 93:4), and is the Ancient of Days (Job 12:12; Daniel 7:9,13,22).

Joshua was one of the twelve tribes (Numbers 13:8), so was Jesus (Matthew 2:6; Hebrews 7:14; Revelation 5:5).

    Joshua was connected to a “Joseph” (Genesis 41:52, 46:20, 48:1,5,13-14,17,20, 50:23; Numbers 13:8, 26:28,37; Joshua 14:4, 16:4, 17:17 , etc), so also Jesus (“Joseph”, the step-father (Matthew 1:16,18-20,24, 2:13,19; Luke 1:27, 2:4,16,33,43, 3:23; John 1:45, 6:42) and “Joseph” of Arimathea (Matthew 27:57,59; Mark 15:43,45; Luke 23:50; John 19:38) and other “Joseph” (Luke 3:24,26,30))

Joshua was told to choose out men to combat the opposing forces (Exodus 17:9), Jesus also (Luke 6:13; John 6:70; Romans 1:1).

Joshua led the twelve tribes (Joshua 3:12, 4:2-4,8-9,20), so too Jesus the twelve apostles (Luke 6:13; John 6:70).

Joshua was victorious over the adversaries (Exodus 17:13), so too Jesus (Psalms 98:1-3; Colossians 2:15).

Joshua went down into the Jordan river (Joshua 1:2, 3:8), as did Jesus (Matthew 3:13,16; Mark 1:9; Luke 3:3,21; John 1:28-34).

God was with Joshua (Joshua 1:5,9,17, 3:10), as with Jesus (John 8:29, 11:42, 16:32).

    Joshua obeyed God's Commandments (Joshua 1:7-8, 11:14), Jesus obeyed His Father's Commandments (Deuteronomy 18:16,18; John 12:49-50, 15:10).

Whosoever would not hearken unto Joshua was to be put to death (Joshua 1:18), and so likewise with Jesus (Deuteronomy 18:15,19; Acts 3:22-23; Hebrews 2:3, 12:25-26).

Joshua sent out men by two (Joshua 2:1,4,23), so did Jesus (Mark 6:7; Luke 10:1).

Joshua came out of Egypt (Exodus 12:17; Joshua 2:10; Acts 7:40; Hebrews 3:16, 8:9), so did Jesus (Hosea 11:1; Matthew 2:13-15,19)

    Joshua
saves a remnant, a woman and her family, from a doomed populace (Joshua 2:13, 6:23,25), so does Jesus (Matthew 1:21; Romans 9:27, 11:5; Revelation 12:17).

All the land was given into the hand of Joshua (Joshua 2:24), so too Jesus (John 13:3; Revelation 21:1,7).

Joshua was to cast out 7 wicked nations (Joshua 3:10), Jesus casts out 7 wicked devils (Mark 16:9; Luke 8:2).

Miraculous events happened in the life of Joshua (Joshua 3:1-4:18, 10:12-14), so too with Jesus (Mark 6:52; John 4:54, 6:14, etc).

Joshua was circumcised (Joshua 5:5), so too Jesus (Luke 2:21).

    Joshua meets Jesus (Joshua 5:13-15).

    Joshua and the Trumpets 6 +7 (Joshua 6:1-16); Jesus and the 6 Trumpets + 7 Plagues (the fullness of the 7th Trumpet) (Revelation 10:7, 11:15, 15:1-8, 16:1-21).

Joshua slays all the wicked in the city (Jericho), and everything therein and burns it by fire (Joshua 6:21,24), and will Jesus (2 Thessalonians 1:8, 2:8).

Joshua had a covetous traitor in his ranks (Joshua 7:1-25, 22:20), so too Jesus (Matthew 26:16; Mark 14:10-11; Luke 22:4,6,64,71; John 6:70, 12:4,6, 13:2,11; Acts 1:16-25).

All the nations fight against Joshua (Joshua 9:1-2, 11:4-5,20,23, 12:1-24), so too Jesus (Revelation 17:12-14, 20:7-10).

Joshua had the people place their feet on their enemies (Joshua 10:24), so will Jesus (Malachi 4:3).
I am sure there is more!

    Joseph (part 1)

In the events of Jospeh's life is so clearly seen the life of the Messias Jesus, that it is truly something to behold. At the beginning and ending of Jesus own life there was a Joseph (a step father; husband to Mary) and Joseph of Arimathea and thus we have the life of Jesus capped on both ends with Joseph. Joseph is given dreams, and the step father of Jesus is also given dreams.

Joseph is the first born of Rachel (Rachel means a "ewe", a female Lamb, she bares a male, in type the "male lamb", firstborn) (Jesus is the Lamb of God), and Joseph is a miracle child for Rachel at first bare no children (even as other patricarchs wives before her) (Jesus is a miracle child, the 7th in scripture). Joseph's name means "JEHOVAH will add" (and Rachel also had a second son, Benjamin, meaning "Son of the Right Hand"), and so we have in these two names, coming from the "ewe", "JEHOVAH has added [to me] the Son of His Right Hand" (as we may see in Genesis 30:24, 35:24), and as we consider the very names found given in the scriptures, we see a special order given in Revelation 7 of those names of the sons of Jacob.

Joseph is the beloved son of Jacob (Israel) and is given a robe (garment of character) of many colors (the very symbol of the everlasting covenant, rainbow) even in his "old age", he being a representative of the "ancient of days" with a special son (Jesus is the only begotten son of the Father, who is the one who made the everlasting covenant, for he is the messenger of the covenant):

Genesis 37:3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he [was] the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of [many] colours.

Joseph was special in that he was specially chosen of God, and was given visions of prophecy and future glory, and able to interpret them (Jesus is a prophet, foretold even by Moses to come, for as Jesus said, "Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am [he]." John 13:19; He tells the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:9-10), notice what is actually being said, "I AM", even as He first told the woman at the well, "I that speak unto thee AM [he]."), and all would bow to him (even as it is said of Jesus, "...That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear." Isaiah 45:23; Romans 14:11; Philippians 2:10).

In the scriptures, it is interesting to note that in the life of Joseph, the scripture records no specific sin of his (though scripture is clear that all except Christ Jesus have sinned), but scripture makes the correlation that Joseph is the type of He who was to come, spotless. Joseph loved his family, his father and brothers, even though his brothers were cruel unto him and hated him.

Jospeh (the son) is sent by the Father (Israel, the ancient of days) unto His brethren, of whom he is related by flesh:

Genesis 37:13 And Israel said unto Joseph, Do not thy brethren feed [the flock] in Shechem? come, and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, Here [am I].

The brothers of Joseph, because of envy and jealousy and pride, plotted to be rid of him, even kill him (even as seen of the Pharisees, Saduccess, Scribes in the days of Christ Jesus as they did to him):

Genesis 37:18 And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him.

Genesis 37:20 Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams.

Joseph was taken, thrown into a pit, a hole (Jesus placed in a pit, and into a grave), and his robes are torn and covered in the blood of a killed kid of goat (goat is the symbol of the sin offering, as it is on the day of atonement; Leviticus 16; Christ Jesus it is said, "For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who knew no sin..." 2 Corinthians 5:21), and though Joseph did not die there (though in the events he is made to be dead), in type he comes out alive of the pit (Jesus too comes out of the grave alive) and is exalted (even as Joseph was exalted over the whole house of Pharoah).

A word of prophetic utterance given by Judah:

Genesis 37:26 And Judah said unto his brethren, What profit [is it] if we slay our brother, and conceal his blood?

    And then the following:

And they took Joseph's coat, and killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood; Genesis 37:31 (see also Jesus, "And he [was] clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God." Revelation 19:13), Jesus was stripped of his robe (pure white robe, perfect righteousness) and even a scarlet robe was placed upon him (And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. Matthew 27:28). The blood stained robe is presented to the Father (Israel), to cover the sin of Josephs brethren in what they had done to the favored son.

Joseph is betrayed by his brethren, and sold for the price of a slave in the amount of silver (in this instance, 20, but in the events of Samson, 30 pieces); and Christ Jesus is betrayed into the hands of the enemy and sold for the price of a slave, 30 pieces of silver. Prophecy and typology combine perfectly. Even as Judah betrayed, Judas betrayed.

Notice that he was taken down into Egypt (Hosea 11:1; Matthew 2:13-15), and even by those that were carrying "spices, balm and myrrh" (Genesis 37:25), even as Jesus before going down into Egypt as a small child, was met by the wisemen of the east, which brought before him, "gold and frankincense and myrrh" (Matthew 2:11).

Joseph is tempted by a seducer, and is yet victorious over temptation, though he is falsely charged of crime and sin and is later vindicated. Jesus was victorious over all temptation and falsely charged and is vindicated.

Joseph is then cast into prison (representative again of the grave), and is seen as being condemned between two other men (cupbearer and baker) and with the wicked, one of the two men is restored and the other condemned to death, even as the two thieves upon the crosses next to Christ Jesus, one will be restored in the resurrection to come, and the other is lost.

Joseph is then brought before Pharoah, and prophcies of coming disaster, and yet Joseph is in the position to be able to save them all from dying, and so is made ruler over all of his household, bearing authority, at the age of 30 and even raised up as Judge over his brethren. Jesus too, as prophecy and typology foretells (Numbers 4) that Jesus too would be 30 years of Age at the beginning of His ministry (AD 27), the age a man had to be to begin the priestly work in the tabernacle and is the "Judge of all the earth".
