We can be absolutely sure that the Jerusalem Church kept the Sabbath.

James and the others had favor with the peopleeven priests obeyed the faith (Acts 2:47; 6:7). This would have been utterly impossible if the Church had been meeting on Sunday (or any other day) and breaking the Sabbath.

If that had been the case, it would have been mentioned as the major accusation against, and problem for, the Church. The Church was indeed persecuted by the religious leaders of the day, but not for Sabbath-breaking.

The Jews from Palestine were really after Paul. They wanted to find something against him. He was constantly under attack. But he was never even accused of breaking the Sabbath, as was Jesus. This proves that Paul never even appeared to break it, much less did he actually teach against it.

After reading this I would doubt everything that this group produced. Why should we trust anything written by bitheists?

BTW they are infering more than the text allows. For one, things may have been said but were never recorded. Also the mentioned verses were a little before Paul's time.

The Old Testament did not forbid one to pick ears of grain on the Sabbath to eat on the spot.

Yet, when Jesus and His disciples did this He was called to account. The reason? Because the religious leaders had classified picking ears as "reaping" and rubbing loose the grain as "threshing."

The incident of the disciples plucking grain to eat in the fields (Mt. 12:1-8; Mk. 2:23-28; Lk. 6:1-5) was no violation of property law since this was specifically permitted in the Old Testament (Deut. 23:25).

    Hi, Chemnitz

    1) "But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

However, not everyone has this knowledge. .... "

    1Corinthians 8:6-7

    2) "I and my Father are one" -- John 10:30
    ------------------------------------

"You have heard Me tell you, 'I am going away and I am coming to you.' If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I. -- John 14:28.

"My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand." -- John 10:29.

The Jerusalem Church met twice a week. They apparently had a two tiered membership and encouraged the gentile believers to become Jews.

It is apparent at least to me that Jesus and the (real) Apostles expected the believers to reform Judaism from the inside.

I am not sure I get your point.

I think you are trying to defend their heresy but I am not sure.

The early church, Jewish descendants, were still expecting Messiah to set up an earthly kingdom and it is natural that they would push the Jew's religion along with the newfound faith in Christ. Acts is a progressive book in spirals,,it goes ahead, looks back, recovers and moves on again. In essence, Paul and the other Apostles set the record straight, that Jesus set up His kingdom when He ascended into heaven. The church became the Israel of God and inheriter of the Abrahamic promises or covenant.

To understand scripture properly, we cannot dismiss historical events and facts. You cannot interpret scripture by one verse or even chapter, but by the continuity of scripture as a whole. That's why God gave us a whole book!

    Cheers,

    Jim

Luke, writing some two or three decades after Jesus' resurrection, says (Acts 17:2) it is still Paul's "manner" to attend synagogue. Paul attends the synagogue on the Sabbath day "as His manner was".

This indicates he attended regular services as a means of Sabbath observance, rather than just for the purpose of teaching.

It was the same with Jesus. Luke 4 says Jesus went into the synagogue "as His custom was" (v16). This indicates that He, too, attended regular services as a means of Sabbath observance, rather than just for the purpose of teaching.

The scenario most christians like to paint of Paul is that He just slipped into the synagogue to convert a few Jews and then attended sunday school the next day. Gimme a break.
