They've been here off and on since the first century. The reason you missed it is because you look for the symbols of Revelation to happen, and overlook what the symbols represent.

If they are specific people, who are they?

If not real people, how can they be thrown into hell, can mere symbols have that happened to them?

Recently we saw this in America. The Obama administration passed sinful laws that people could not buy or sell unless they complied with them. Since the laws only affected a small segment, Christian businesses that catered to weddings and the like, people took little notice. But the Christian bakers and wedding host could not operate unless they complied. So in this case, those favoring the sinful laws received the mark. And those who resisted them did not.

But this is the case throughout history, ever since Nero and the Papacy, Christians suffered and died from not receiving the mark

It's been here in different forms since the first century. But overlooked by those expecting Revelation's symbols to appear instead of what the symbols represent.

Do you see the pope as Antichrist, as the reformers did?

The Bible does not teach annihilation or eternal hell. It teaches hell which lasts for an age -- an eon, "aion". I challenge anyone to prove that an age is an eternity.

I am the only one here who interprets hell literally based on the original languages -- or the only one I know about.

I have always wondered why "age" is translated as eternal by the translators. Because man is vindictive by nature and God is not?

I have already said that "for ever and ever" is a mistranslation. The correct rendering means age-long or age-enduring -- or here specifically, unto the ages of ages. Now that is evidently a very long time. But you still can't make it mean eternal. An age is a limited time period. God determines how long. I still wouldn't want to be in hell, even for an age.

So, Rebel1, you do not believe God is eternal, but that He had a beginning and will have an end?

And you do not believe our new life in Christ is eternal but will have an end?

Why? How can you call yourself a Christian if you do not believe in an eternal God nor in eternal life?

So, Rebel1, you don't believe John 3:16 is teaching that believers have eternal life? After all, the Greek word translated "eternal" is αιωνιον!

By the way, where did you study Greek? Bachelor's Degree? Masters? Ph.D.? How many hours and did you write a thesis or dissertation I can look at?

Where do you get that I don't believe God is eternal?

You'll forgive me if I choose not to answer this in detail, as I have learned the hard way to guard my privacy on online forums. I'll just say that I have an advanced seminary degree.
