I was just thinking of something - Suppose a clergyman started preaching that since the Bible
talks of slavery - we should once again have slavery. Granted, slavery is outlawed in the COTUS - but if he
preached such a message - he could not be arrested due to freedom of religion and freedom of
speech. (not to mention either the church would fire him or many would leave the Church.

So could a pastor actually be arrested under the "Ban the Bible" due to freedom of religion and free speech?

What we seem to have here is an ultra right organization getting caught using inflammatory rhetoric to put fear into people of faith. If that article were true, they would have to ban the Qur'an as well. Islam still engages in the practice of stoning homosexuals, etc to death. The language is not ambiguous. Anyone willing to lay odds that California will ban the Muslim holy book?

Snopes says that the article is untrue. A straight-forward lie.

FACT CHECK: Would a Proposed Law 'Ban the Bible' in California?

    Here is the actual bill.

    http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=201720180AB2943

Everyone has an agenda. This is from NCR (National Catholic Recorder) and EWTN.

Could a California Bill Ban Christian Teaching on Homosexuality?

When one considers the quagmire that is now known as the Catholic Church, they should really shut-up about homosexuality.

Unfortunately I have caught CBN engaging in speculation rather than facts, a good many times. I no longer trust them. In this day and age, a Christian has to check every source and double check the Christian media.

If California were able to ban the sale of the Bible, they would not stop at a mere thing called the first amendment. Come to think of it. I live in AZ, but grew up in California. Are the state border enforcement agencies going to take away my bible from hands in my own car?

For those who care. Here is the California Constitution as it affects

I don't agree with the bill, but it nevertheless seems to be directed at businesses that are mental health providers, and not churches/religions. That said, I wouldn't put it past some individual and lawyer attempting to bring a suit against a church using Section 2:
"(i) (1) “Sexual orientation change efforts” means any practices that seek to change an individual’s sexual orientation. This includes efforts to change behaviors or gender expressions, or to eliminate or reduce sexual or romantic attractions or feelings toward individuals of the same sex."

With a quick look, I didn't find anything about age 18 in the bill text, which is HERE.

This previous bill, passed in 2012, clearly mentions "a patient under 18 years of age." The new one does mention "18 years of age" in one place I missed:
Looking back over it again, it seems this bill is primarily about banning advertising and offering sex orientation change to "an individual." Not sure I'm understanding it, but perhaps advertising has previously been legal if directed to anyone over 18???? It's late, so I'm not going to expend any more time and energy trying to figure it out!

Interesting too, though, that this is all about stuff in the mind. “Sexual orientation change efforts” as defined by California does not mean any practice that changes an individual’s actual physical sexual orientation!

May I suggest against such a wrong headed unbiblical view of what the word of God says on slavery a Jewish commentary: "The Rational Bible: Exodus, God, Slavery, and Freedom." By Dennis Prager.

Snopes is untrustworthy when it comes to God or his word. True, the bill does not explicitly ban Bible sales, but its underlying premise is a direct attack on the Bible, and especially on openly proclaiming its teachings and putting those into practice. Such would render the Bible a relic of the past.

The bill opens: "SECTION 1. The Legislature finds and declares the following: (a) Contemporary science recognizes that being lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender is part of the natural spectrum of human identity and is not a disease, disorder, or illness."

What they list as natural, the Bible clearly teaches as against nature. Californians already cannot legally direct people toward a healthy nature when they need it most, when it could be most effective, as minors. Now they intend to make it illegal to address these problems even for adults wanting help. If they were concerned only with truth in advertising, there would be no problem, but the aim here is clearly ideological and Christians should be alarmed, on their knees, and up in arms.

The OP's 'news' article is from last April!

The bill's sponsor later pulled it, see our thread:

Seriously? Snopes is not a Christian organization. Everyone knows that. The facts remain that the bill never suggested a ban on the sale of Bibles. You have the Bill, read it for yourself. I wouldn't put such an act past California. It is a disgraceful state in their politics and borderline socialism. But God has graced California with some of the most beautiful places on planet earth. The Redwoods, The Sequoias, Yosemite, Big Sur, etc. It's the evidence of God's love for his people.

When I answer a post, I do my homework first. Some Christians are their own enemies. Christian news reporting is very often jut nonsense. I expect them to be honest, and not exaggerate claims.

I appreciate your studying the issue, etc. I try to do the same. Snopes was obviously very selective and dishonest in their own appraisal. I agree that should be no surprise. Their kind are bent on silencing both the Bible and believers at every level. We all should know this was hardly a first step. They certainly know it.

I read the bill and quoted it. While the bill may not be an immediate direct ban on the Bible, its language contradicts the Bible to the point that it could eventually be used in that context. This is not an exaggeration. And the other article points out that they withdrew it only in order to make a nationwide attack.

Rather than the geography and climate of California, I would raise the issue of legalized abortion. According to its proponents, it was supposed to be safe and rare, but of course neither was true. We never seem to learn that these attacks are intended to achieve far more evil than they admit to.

This is probably the biggest understatement ever on this board!!
Satan is fully aware of the method to "squeeze his nose under the tent" to achieve long term goals, and his minions use it to great effect!!
