Should you use sports as an analogy when you preach your messages?

This author says NO. Click here for link

I agree. I like baseball but don't keep up with any sport (I'd rather watch Field of Dreams than an actual game).

I have had to endure sports analogies in sermons more than I care to consider.

Technically, he doesn't say No...for he even quoted Paul doing something similar:

    3. This is not to say you cannot use sports analogies or stories in sermons. They’re in Scripture. (1 Corinthians 9:24-27; Hebrews 12:1; 2 Timothy 4:7)

The goal in our preaching should be the exaltation of the Lord Jesus Christ, who He is and what He finished on the Cross and what that passage means in context in light of Him.

I always use music references.... like Gilmore replacing Barrett and what this meant for Pink Floyd. And Jerry Garcia's iconic missing finger.

Anyway...I never preach at the same church twice. :Biggrin

Being a Detroit Lions fan, they should never be used, unless its to highlight outright failure!

I dont see using sports as analogy - sometimes -
Same goes for anything - I was in the military - use an analogy from time to time-.
