Pastor defends buying wife $200,000 Lamborghini

Well, it could have been a 500,000 Lamborghini

 

The problem here is that John Gray has not been a senior pastor very long. His wealth did not come from the church.

He was wealthy when he accepted the role as senior pastor (and left Lakewood Church where he was an associate pastor).

The question is whether or not a wealthy man is qualified to serve as pastor of a church, or if he is required to give away his wealth in order to serve in that capacity. Should he have changed his lifestyle when he became pastor?

What about other pastors who have become wealthy? Max Lucado lives in a $1.3 million dollar home and is also a pastor in Texas. The late R.C. Sproul was worth millions.

John MacArthur's net worth is over $12 million. Does this disqualify him from the ministry (should he first give to the poor and then serve).

I'm not saying either way, but there does seem to be a double standard when it comes to pastors we like and the ones we don't.

I would like to think I do not have a doubled standard.

I heard once that a pastor salary should be no more than the wealthiest on less than the poorest of his church.

Now since the pastor in question is very wealthy - is he accepting a salary from the church.

IF he is extremely wealthy - should he then personally fund some "welfare" programs thur his church.
For example have a large food closet - but those who need it would be required to work for it.

Lets forward 10 years - the pastor does something the church does not like - and the pastor leaves -
and takes his millions with him. Hmmm that means no more food closed.....
Now the church has another complaint with him
You know maybe JonC has a point with that double standard.......

 

Maybe so - but his life should be ABOVE REPROACH.
