Mary Poppins branded a racist

    OK, Went on ROKU.

    The movie is "White Chicks" 2004 with Shawn and Marlon Wayans.

    The plot:
    Two African-American FBI agents go undercover disguised as white women to foil a kidnapping attempt.
    It's a 4 star movie but only received a 15% Rotten Tomato award.

    Actually "Black Face" in the stage/movie industry goes back to Al Jolson and The Jazz Singer (1927) the FIRST Talkie.

    He was the son of a synagogue cantor. He sang "Mammie" in the movie in black-face,

    Al was from a religious Jewish background.

    Personally I believe Al's motive was pure.
    He identified with the suffering the black man received here in America from slavery and White Supremacy (KKK).

    That identity - being a Jew he knew first hand the suffering of racism through anti-semitism.

    Nice spin, Hank. JK. He may very well have meant well (I suspect he did), though that would not be enough to excuse him (in "their" eyes).

    However, the race argument is never true. Being of a certain race never precludes the possibility of racism, reverse racism, or any other vice, or virtue. I know you know that, but it needs to be said...repeatedly.

    You hit it on the head there. Attacking with “You’re (a) racist!” works so well because of its emotional impact. The accusation is almost invariably vacuous, like the accuser’s cranium. But emotional "arguments" work.
