The link mentioned the Europeans on Greenland "mysteriously" dying out. What I've read is that when they initially settled there, climate was sufficiently mild to enable considerable vegetable crops. By the 14th century, things had cooled to the point where folks subsisted on fish, mutton, and whatever got shipped from Copenhagen (et al.) With repeated wars in Europe, those shipments dwindled, and the remaining settlers either sailed back to Europe or perished due to starvation/disease, leaving the island to the indigenous North Americans who had long been there.

It seems, sometimes, that God is just laughing at the STUPIDITY of man actually thinking he can control that which is only in HIS control!

Does anyone remember the acid rain terror? A "man made" horror show which will kill ALL our fresh water fish and denude the forests.

"Whatever happened to acid rain? Back in the 1970s and 1980s it was killing our forests, acidifying lakes so they could no longer support life, and leaching metals out of soil into waterways where they could attack human health. "

I asked concerning this question a few years ago here on the BB and I was told by one of our liberal posters that science had solved the problem.

I did my own research and found that there was nothing done but a study (this one cost 1/2 billion).
Analysis "Acid Rain" turned out to be a myth.

What made the acid rain myth finally evaporate?

Not to worry (well actually DON'T stop worrying!) The Acid Rain scare was quickly replaced by - There is a HOLE in our ozone layer and it is OUR FAULT!! Hmm what happened to this one?

Oh yeah, back to Global Warming (oops I mean Climate Change) - Sure here in the State of Washington it changes every day. Sometimes more than once :)

BTW here perhaps is the next scare though a new myth will have to be developed with "Scientific Evidence" abundantly supplied showing that it is mankind's fault.

The NORTH POLE is MOVING!!

The Magnetic North Pole Has Moved. Here's What You Need To Know [Infographic]

This should be worth a trillion or so.

Sensational! ;) The problem with these is that the conditions really do exist, but the causes are generally unstudied (or little known) making them ripe for abuse by greedy scientists and politicians, who easily enlist the equally greedy Henny Penny press to skillfully dupe society's gullible quixotes. Then we all pay the price.

Here is a terrifying crises that was "Horrifying Scientists"

Insects Are Rapidly Disappearing Around The World, Leaving Scientists Horrified

A few months ago our enviro-terrorists tried in vain to get this "Insect Apocalypse" off the ground so they tied it to "Climate Change".

    The Insect Apocalypse Is Here

Now you are scaring me, Hank!

The insect decrease is clearly due to increased cell phone and GPS usage, as well as the popularity of solar panels, windmills, and electric vehicles, though they should not rule out microwave usage and satellite TV.

In Europe add to these the effects of too much diesel fuel usage and high speed limits with resultant overuse of windshield wiper fluid, a fatal combination to be sure (even if no one has yet sanctified it with “science”:Wink).

Disclaimer: Your mileage may vary. And all of the above was made up anyway.

Global Warming Faceplant on the Left Coast

"...The Los Angeles Times recently reported how cold February was, not reaching 70 degrees even once during the entire month. They bemoaned the poor coastal restaurants that needed portable heaters to warm waiters and diners eating outdoors, a staple of Southern California dining.

They didn’t mention how the heaters were powered. Given that this is California, I was hoping the heaters were wind or solar powered, but I suspect they ran on kerosene or some other evil fossil fuel..."

"...The LA Times notes the month of below 70 degree temperatures is a record dating back 132 years, “since forecasters began recording data.”..."

And two years earlier the Tahoe region ski areas were showing lots of brown ground all winter. One theory concerning climate change is that extremes, in both directions, will be more common. My study of climate data, mostly limited to the American Northeast, has shown support for that theory when looking at precipitation events. Temperature seems more equivocal about extremes, though most long-term sites with consistent monitoring and microsite location (one can find surprising temperature differences by moving 100 feet or less), have shown a 1-2° (F) rise over the past century-plus. Some may be, in part at least, due to increased urban heat island effect, but the rise also shows up in many more rural (or unchanging in character) sites.

The forest modelers with whom I work like to say, "All models are wrong but some are useful." However accurate/inaccurate the climate models, we are stewards of God's creation and need to act as wise stewards. That mandates careful use of God's resources. It also means we don't panic at the first potential problem. Some folks look to imitate this silly ditty: "When in danger, when in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout!"

So you're for the Green New Deal? Carbon taxes? Getting rid of fossil fuels?

What if the gist of the OP article is correct and diminished sun spot activity is bringing in global cooling? If we outlaw fossil fuels how are we to stay warm in this cold weather? What can we do to cause more sun spots?

    [add]

If memory serves me right during the 90s there were at least three bodies in our solar system that were warming up simultaneously, Earth, Mars, and a moon of Neptune. There's one thing these three share in common. Old Sol.

I hope that top line is tongue-in-cheek. If not, I'll begin by asking you a question. Do you not think we are to be wise stewards of what God has provided?

    Looking at the actual queries:
--No, the green New Deal would be a disaster, and the earth's poor would suffer most.
--I'm, leery of carbon taxes, not because the concept is necessarily wrong (governments have been designing tax policies to encourage or discourage selected behaviors since taxing began) but because I have low confidence that the revenues generated would be used beneficially.
--The dependence on fossil fuels will be of limited duration as they are finite, even as we are finding additional ways to extract their reserves. Energy sources for human purposes have been changing since creation, when the first humans had only foot power. Scripture is silent on when animals were first used for transportation, wind power was so used centuries prior to Christ's incarnation, while use of fossil fuels goes back little more than 200 years. It makes sense to gradually move toward renewables, with fossil fuels providing a bridge. Who knows, maybe cold fusion will be the next big thing.

The low sunspot numbers of the past 2 cycles, especially the current one, look to mimic the Dalton minimum and may approach/equal the Maunder minimum that brought Europe's Little Ice Age. Civilization made it through that time; I don't think a reduction, even to near elimination, of fossil fuel use would cause intolerable cooling, not as long as volcanos continue to belch.
