These arbitrary closing of threads due to the number of posts is ridiculous.

It's not arbitrary. Threads are normally closed when they get somewhere around 135 posts. There have been times I thought they should be extended, but often they generate other conversations that are best taken up on different threads. I am not sure how the staff arrived at the number (the rule was in place before I joined the staff).

People can always continue the conversation on a new thread (or start a "spin off" based on a new topic). That's why we sometimes see "part II" added.

That is what I mean by arbitrary. 135 is an arbitrary number. Starting other threads actually breaks up the flow of conversation and is very difficult to navigate between the two.

    I don't know.

I've been involved in threads that were not hijacked or involved in "thread drift", but really did not gain traction until it was hitting over 100 posts. So I tend to agree with you, but I do not make those decisions.

Or if there was a way to quote posts from closed threads that would be helpful as well.

Does the "quote" feature not work on closed threads?

When it’s locked, they lock the doorknob, bolt the door, put a bar across it, and then nail it.

    Interesting.

So the only option is to start another thread when the notice is given that the present one will be closed soon (if you're around) or type in the message with a reference to the thread (the url).

Yes..p4t had personal struggles. As his handle said, he looked for truth and honesty from professed Christians and did not find it in your posting. You undermined him with the same sactimonious posting we see here.
The things you accuse all of us of,seem to be you projecting yourself on us

This thread starter on point. I regret I contributed to it going off the rails. Still, it served it's purpose

We all have personal struggles. What I am saying is that these cannot be a reason to deal falsely with other people - not only other Christians but other people in general. P4T knew about Christ, and I know he struggled, as you put it, to "find truth". That is why I keep him in my prayers.

That said, none of this justifies your false accusations against me or any other person here. First, it is false. Second, it is simply not becoming a Christian. While I have forgiven you, I strongly urge you to reconsider how you interact with other people. Even though you disagree with them other Christians are members of Christ's body. When you speak falsely about them it is the same as speaking falsely about Christ.

And that is where we need to stay focused. Not on "winning an argument at any costs"; not on supporting a "camp", not even on defending our theories. We have to stay focused on Christ and have the same mind in us that Christ had as He humbled Himself to die on a cross FOR US, for OUR forgiveness.

If our faith has no effect on our behavior it is worthless. We can talk about Christ until the "cows come home" (whatever that means) but if we are making false accusations and insults while we are doing it then we are expressing an empty, worthless faith. It is not about what we believe but the One in whom we believe.

That is what has to change here.
