Thanks that really moved me... I love that song and led it in church many times... Didn't sing as well as he did and my acapella now a days is more like a rusty bell... Still lifting up my voice to the Lord, when I'm able... Brother Glen:)

I enjoyed singing along with that - the second part in the chorus.
When all the words are on screen, & hymnbooks not in use we lose harmony.

That was a blessing - the 3rd verse may be my favorite of all hymn verses. A nitpick - because I sing bass, I wish he'd sung that part a little louder. However, the tenor part brought chills, and most importantly, his enunciation made the crawler superfluous.

Acapella quartet is my favorite way to sing, but any singing - with or without accompaniment - that honors God is great.

I lead the music and we simply sing the grand old hymns. All we have is a piano. I wear a suit and tie. We don't put on a production; we just sing with our hearts to the Lord.

Our music is joyful. And eclectic. We are a diverse congregation, so not surprisingly, our music is diverse. We sing both traditional hymns and more contemporary Christian music -- everything from Crosby to Crowder. All types of instruments are used -- organ, grand piano, electric piano, strings, brass, guitars, drums, etc. -- depending on the specific songs that Sunday.

I go to a church where the Madison Avenue type slogan, "Touching a tomorrow we'll never see.", has become our mantra. I grew up attending a Foursquare Church pastored by a woman in the late 50's and 60's. My older brother and sister and I sang the old standards and didn't feel disconnected with our generation. Today, our culture and society have declined to the point of pandering to every whim and fancy for fear of losing someone for lack of interest or, worse, failure to relate. Our pastor refuses to preach/teach on serious issues facing families and/or individuals today, such as pornography, substance abuse, sexual deviation (including gender identity) and others. These topics are considered too sensitive for young ears to hear and consider. The worship part of our service I've come to almost dismiss for the lameness of lyrical content, poor choice of apparel by worship team onstage, the darker aspect of stage 'lighting' and the obvious required 'smoke' present during worship.
Why do we feel obliged to bring these aspects into the Lord's House? His Sanctuary? On the same token, why does our church leadership feel reluctant to address serious moral dilemmas facing those in congregations they oversee?
How we treat God's House and what we choose to offer up as worship to Him and what we choose to deliver to His sheep as His message to us can say an enormous amount of what god we're actually serving. Jesus said it best, "Take therefore no thought for tomorrow, for tomorrow will take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient to this day is the evil thereof." (Matt. 6:34)

We have two hymnals, the newest of which was published in 1960 -- the closest to contemporary we get.
Amen to that. I would add that if you can't sing a song a cappella and it sound good, it is not the right kind of song for a congregational setting.

Traveling much, I have done it all from ancient acapella hymns to deafening blacked-out rock concerts. I lean acapella with plenty of latitude for the left-center. In every setting I have found God working in His people, sometimes in spite of the music :)

We have a church like that here. I've never been, but I keep getting their videos on my Facebook page for some reason.

I was a musician for many years (I still sit in with friends' bands and occasionally play out as a single) but this is crazy. It honestly looks like they think they're playing Madison Square Garden or something.

Jimmy Buffett lives near us and he put on a free show in the park (twice). It was just him and Pete and Roger from the CRB. No lights. No set. No nothing but just two guys playing guitar.

Why can one of the biggest rock stars just get up on a bare stage and sing, but a church worship team thinks they need to look like a Van Halen show?

What if you couldn't raise your voices to the Lord in song then what would you do?... What if you couldn't hear the music, could you still praise the Lord?... My 38 year old son can't and yet he worships the Lord every Sunday in song... This is how they would sing, It Is Well With My Soul in his church... Praise the Lord you can sing, some can't... Brethren!... Welcome to Deaf church!... Enjoy!... Brother Glen:)
