I predict no action will be taken against Conway. I have a friend who used to be covered by the Hatch Act and she would have been nailed to the wall for violating it like Conway did. There are way too many people working in the federal government, regardless of political stripe, who prove the statement made by a character on an episode of “Bonanza”: “There’s a law for you’uns and a law for we’uns, but it ain't the same law.”

‘ The OSC, which is separate from the office with a similar name previously run by Robert Mueller, said in a scathing report released Thursday that White House Counselor Conway violated the Hatch Act by “disparaging Democratic presidential candidates while speaking in her official capacity during television interviews and on social media.

“Ms. Conway’s violations, if left unpunished, would send a message to all federal employees that they need not abide by the Hatch Act’s restrictions. Her actions thus erode the principal foundation of our democratic system—the rule of law,” the OSC said in a statement Thursday, noting that Conway has been a “repeat offender.” ‘

No one goes to jail over the Hatch Act. The implication that this is a jailable offense by some shows how ludicrously one-side these people who promote this are.

So, this is not a disproportionate application of the law as some partisans would describe. Ms. Conway works at the pleasure of the President as his spokesperson. So, if she said something he really didn't want said, he's more than capable of saying "You're Fired!" And that is the biggest punishment the Hatch Act can provide.

It is an administrative constraint - not a law that can be broken.

Being almost 64 years old, I have found neither part of the Duopoly consistent in caring about the rule of law.

When I was a kid during the Golden Age of the Eisenhower years, my family was all red-hot Sen. Robert A.Taft Republicans. Huey Long's son, Russell Long, used to exasperate me. However, Huey's demagoguery amuses me now. Sen. Taft died about 1953 and people all said that it was God's will that Ike was elected because God knew that Sen. Taft was going home shortly after the 1952 election. Ike gave us peace through strength and a degree of prosperity along with domestic tranquility. That was only yesterday.
