I agree with you on this part of it. They should have used personal days (which they have a certain number allotted for that).

Maybe. If a strike date had been announced, the school admins would've had time to cope with it. Was the sick-out announced some days ahead? If so, admins perhaps should've coped better. If not, then I see teachers as sharing some culpability. And if Bevins was correctly quoted on cancellations in 777's post, the linked media reaction appears to be intentionally false.

No matter how you try to spin it teachers are not responsible for that shooting under any circumstance whether they were at school or not. To even suggest so is ridiculous.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if parents could choose where to send their children?

If there is someway that you can PROVE that statement, I’ll agree. Otherwise there is the POSSIBILITY that their non-presence MAY have been a factor.
At any rate a strike SHOULD have been on their time, not the schools!

That is different than saying they are responsible for the shooting.

Apparently you don't know what a strike is.

    1.
a refusal to work organized by a body of employees as a form of protest, typically in an attempt to gain a concession or concessions from their employer.

Out of curiosity, is it legal for teachers to strike in Kentucky? It is illegal in most states.

No it is not legal for a formal strike in Kentucky. Which, of course, is not what they had. But none of that has anything to do with the fact that the teachers are not responsible for that shooting. That's the same type of logic that makes gun manufacturers responsible for mass shootings.

Not exactly the same logic. If an illegal action directly or indirectly causes or contributes to a death, then the perpetrator of that action bears responsibility in the death. Intent does not rest in the death, it rests in the underlying crime of contribution.

If a gun manufacturer illegally sold a gun that was used in a death, the gun manufacturer would be responsible. Whether or not the actions of the teachers were legal or illegal determines their responsibility.

Teachers should never strike. The USA needs to dismantle government education.

Yeah, from my understanding of what went down in KY, the first big strike was over pension reform. The KY Congress passed the bill in a blink and the teachers were getting the short end of the stick big time. So they sat out but Bevin signed into law. Enter this Behart prince, he's the state AG, he sued and won. Then, this year, there was some bill that was going to change the state pension board. It was just in committee and ultimately failed but the teachers came down with their version of the blue flu. The teachers were using their sick days to go protest this bill in the capitol, not the best optic.

Gave this thread a lot of thought over the weekend, Bevin does seem to view public schools as daycares and wants them open as much as possible so kids won't be home unsupervised? So if some kids gets hit by a car on the way to school, it's the teacher's fault again, or is it Bevin's fault? I don't know about KY, but on the Left Coast. you're usually safer at home than in a public school, especially for older kids.

Exclusive – Poll: ‘Transgender’ Men Ads Lead to 8-Point Voter Swing to Republican Matt Bevin from Democrat Andy Beshear

"A conservative group notes polling data shows an eight-point swing in voters’ shift to incumbent GOP Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin from Democrat candidate Andy Beshear after they view ads highlighting Beshear’s support of biological men competing in women’s sports.

The Campaign for American Principles (CAP) states:

The ads are moving voters in an incredible way — the chart below represents over 2,000 respondents. The gray bar represents Bevin’s support among voters BEFORE seeing the ad and the blue bar is Bevin’s support from voters AFTER seeing the ad. For voters 45-54, Bevin sees an 8pt increase in support, 55-64 give him an additional 4.1pts, and 65+ shift over 9.4pts towards Bevin after seeing the ad.

Ken, Jenean Hampton has been active in Republican politics nationally and was at the White House for the Black Leadership Conference last Saturday. Of course, she represented Kentucky at the dedication of the Ark Encounter in Williamstown, Kentucky, in July 2016, so YECs remember her well as a very nice person. So my question is is Jenean Hampton running for re-election this year?

LOL, that fool Beshear actually won:

Live: Election results in Virginia, Kentucky and Mississippi - CNNPolitics

well, it's an election result link even though it's CNN. Really close but Bevins is now the new Roy Moore - they didn't vote for Beshear, they voted against Bevins. I guess a thirty percent approval rating is something even a Trump visit can't overcome. Now Kentuckians need to neutralize this lefty like North Carolina did to that other leftist they elected governor.
