After stopping to pray for a moment,

    1. Do you believe deeply in your heart that Jesus wanted an atom bomb dropped on Japan?

    2. Do you think God moved in the hearts of people, leading them to drop atom bombs on Japan?

    3. Is the conversation easier if we leave God out of it?

Did Jesus approve of Hirohito conspiring with Hitler to kill millions of Jews and bomb the city of Honolulu?

Japan chose to "awaken the sleeping giant" of America by trying to kill it.
    They paid the price.

My dad, who took one of their bullets in his neck at New Guinea, usually referred to them as "them slant-eyes."

No I don't think God wanted it any more than He wants people to perish in hell. However, I am quite sure He saw the need to defend ourselves.

Remember, God directed the Children of Israel to totally destroy Jericho, among other locations.

I think WWII was God's wrath being poured out on the nations involved including the Jews. And often times in the OT he used one wicked nation to unleash his wrath on another followed by punishing that nation. I believe he brought forth nuclear technology in his wrath and we can expect more suffering because of it.

Framing your questions as you did, and ignoring a host of history, especially regarding the war that eventually led to the bomb drops, you imply God wanted Japan to attack Pearl Harbor, moved in the hearts of the Japanese to commit their wartime atrocities, or even wanted them to thus reassert themselves later, etc., etc., etc.

The Japanese could have surrendered at any time, or better yet, never started. No one likes that they had to be handled the way they were, but that result is entirely on their own arrogantly stubborn heads. They should be thankful a country as merciful as the USA defeated them. The USSR would not have had nearly the same positive effect in the aftermath. Nor should we expect they would have been nearly as merciful to their enemies, since they weren't.

I did not intend to "frame" those questions. My heart was simply to move our conversation toward Jesus teachings.

I can't imagine how you think from my questions that I imply that God wanted Japan to do evil things. But we don't need to waste time on that rabbit trail.

I am concerned that everyone writing so far has blown the questions off as nothing. Revmitchell did sort of obliquely address the questions. They matter to me and inform my choices which is why I asked them. I was expecting "Baptist" and "Bible" conversation from Christians--so that colored my questions. I do wish people would answer the questions.

God used WW2 to punish a number of nations, while the holocaust was the culmination of the Jews' 1800-year punishment for killing Jesus.

    Yes, or it wouldn't've happened.

I believe God caused/allowed man to discover how to make A-bombs, then, caused/allowed it to be used.

I believe we all know God is in charge of events according to Scripture, And an event so stupendous would not have occurred if God had chosen to have prevented it.

Right now, we don't understand many things He does, causes, or allows to happen, but we will some day. So, we can't actually leave God outta anything, as He's in charge of all.

    2. Do you think God or Satan moved in the hearts of people, leading them to murder 6 million Jewish men women and children ?

    3. Is the conversation concerning the stopping of the mass murderers Hitler and Hirohito of WWII easier if we leave God out of it?

“who did both put to death the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and did persecute us, and God they are not pleasing, and to all men are contrary, forbidding us to speak to the nations that they might be saved, to fill up their sins always, but the anger did come upon them—to the end!” 1 Thessalonians 2:15–16 (YLT)

in total Hitler, Stalin and Hirohito were responsible for the death of 20 million people.
We put an end to the slaughter these bloodthirsty madmen caused.

We may yet have to do battle the Russian Bear.

Has Russia become the world’s new moral leader? Has Russia become the world’s new moral leader?

Based on the Old Testament, who would win in view of this?

WE WOULD. True we have been INFILTRATED by murderers who forced ROE v. WADE upon us along with other abominations declared by the SCOTUS.

These laws protecting murderers and those who rejoice in breaking God's commandments were forced upon believers without legally requiring a REFERENDUM.

These abominations are being removed by our present SCOTUS now and completely after Trump's reelection.

Romans 1 shows the characteristics of a nation given over to God's wrath. I'm not as optimistic as you.

I just read a book about the New Guinea battle, there was sure some tough fighting going on there, plus the climate conditions were just plain horrendous. The mud, the rain, the extreme heat and all the critters made it all one big hellhole. I have complete and total respect for your Dad for being there and what he did to help defeat the Japanese. My Dad who was a Seabee was also there, but much later after all the fighting was over and done with.

Many times my Dad woke the whole house shouting in his sleep 'you yellow slant-eyed SOBs'. He's 94, deaf in one ear from a cannon blast, we now realize that he suffered from PTSD, yet he's never stepped foot in a VA hospital.

...consider it as God using the U.S. to delve out divine retribution for the many atrocities committed by the Japanese, for instance:

The Massacre, Rape and Plunder of Nanking
Japanese forces advanced towards Nanking from Shanghai, attacking from three directions on 25 November. The Chinese General Tang Sheng Zhi commanded an army of over a hundred thousand men, but they were poorly led by officers who deserted as the fighting intensified. When the city fell on 13 December 1937, a third of the Chinese Army was still within the walls, shedding their uniforms and trying to hide among the civilians.

For a period of six weeks after the fall of Nanking, the Chinese were not simply murdered. They were tortured, brutalized, and raped. The Japanese used every variety of murder. Chinese victims were:

    • Chased into the Yangtze River with machine guns, drowning them
    • Drenched with gasoline, then shot so they burned like candles
    • Mutilated by cutting off testicles or gouging out eyeballs, then burned while alive
    • Tied to posts in groups, then executed with grenades or machine guns.
    • Covered with acid until dead from the corrosive effects
    • Attacked with awls or other tools or clubs
    • Eviscerated and confronted with their internal organs
    • Beheaded in swordplay displays by Japanese officers
    • Used for grotesque experiments by Japanese doctors and scientists
Women and babies were singled out for special tortures:

    • Women were beaten on the vagina with fists and other objects until dead
    • Babies were skewered and tossed into boiling water
    • Fetuses were cut from living pregnant women and put into jars of preservative
    • Large numbers of women were gang raped and tortured, then killed
    • Rape victims left alive had their stomachs cut open or their breasts chopped off
    • Women were kept as sex slaves at the service of any Japanese man
Japanese soldiers laughingly made games out of these atrocities. Japanese officers organized contests to see what soldier could kill the most Chinese in a given time with numbers as high as 500 required to win. Tokyo newspapers, such as Nichi-nichi, printed stories about the contests with pride and praise for winners.

The Japanese government also sponsored bombings on villages to test germ warfare agents for later use on the United States.

    Aftermath of the Nanking Massacre
During the six weeks of the Japanese massacre, over 300,000 people were killed and over 20,000 additional women were brutally raped. The city was in ruins and the living civilians lost everything. The streets had so many corpses it was hard to move around, even on foot. They floated in the river for a year afterwards, emitting a stench that clung to the whole area. The International Committee buried bodies in mass graves and documented the sites.

This ghastly treatment was calculated to terrorize the Chinese and lead to a rapid collapse of any defense. But China rebuffed Japanese peace offers and the Army, under 51-year-old Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek, withdrew into the rugged interior, finally re-establishing a capital at Chungking, on the upper Yangtze Gorge some 700 miles from the coast. There, with aid from the Allies, they mounted the defense of China that kept the Japanese from advancing further.

The Japanese retained their grip on northern and eastern China until the end of World War II.
