I graduated from Mississippi College (1987) as well as SWBTS (1991). Like many others, the SBC controversy was in the middle of my education. I have a question that someone may know the answer. Why did Page Patterson go to NOBTS? He was a graduate of a Texas Baptist college not to mention his father graduated from SWBTS. SWBTS was the most conservative of the seminaries, yet he attended one that was more moderate and progressive at the time. I find this interesting on many levels.

I was fortunate enough to study and read with professors who taught at NOBTS (i.e., Frank Stagg, Ray Frank Robbins, etc.). Although they never spoke of him or the other leaders of their movement, all three must have studied under them. Their beliefs and teaching were so contrary to the movement. I'm wondering if they were even paying much attention. Their agenda was radically different than the scholars who taught at NOBTS.

They may not have been courted by NOBTS. Interestingly enough, the scholarships were awarded by Dr. harris from H-SU.

He barely got through at NOBTS and my understanding is that favors were called in by others

Jerome, you are very resourceful. It still doesn’t make sense, but I have more questions and answers than I had. Btw, we all had scholarships just by being SB.
