Yea, I'm pretty sure my diet back then was deficient in several nutrients, but something kept me going strong, maybe that I was young...

Lol, it just so happens that at this very moment I am frying a whole 14.25 lb ribeye sliced into thick steaks - RARE - to freeze individually for breakfast, or whatever. I've had it defrosting in the fridge for a couple days. Bought two at Sav-A-Lot for 3.99 a lb last Spring, froze one cooked the other.

Hey Icon, I would agree that our diet here in this country suck, but I would also argue that by far SUGAR and fast food additives are the main contributes to the obesity leading to diabetes and heart disease. To focus the blame primarily on meat is either an agenda or a blind eye.

Probably the worst thing I do is occasionally fry split hot dogs until half black and eat with buttered toast for breakfast. At least the bread is pure multi-grain and the butter is real.

My worst offense with red meat is I buy a pack of 4 thick tenderloins and butter fly them (I like my meat cooked free of blood) and freeze them. Maybe eat this once a week when its around, hamburger 1-2 a month. Otherwise salmon 1-2 times a week and LOTS of chicken breasts.

The heart surgeon blames the additives given in the animal feed, primarily. It is worth the time to view it. He did research back to ww2

Though I do eat steaks rare, steaks frozen rare can also be reheated to whatever doneness one prefers, microwave is perfect for this.

I recently tried the Burger King "Impossible" burger and I must say it was pretty good. They got it close to tasting like real beef to about the 65 percent point. If you take a bite, chew it and swallow it, it tastes somewhat like the real thing. If however, you the take a bite of a real burger (I bought both) you can readily tell the difference. The fake burger does not look like the real one either and the texture is also different. I will keep eating the real one, thank you very much!

Yep. Nutritionally, the impossible burger is as bad if not worse than the real one.

Disclaimer: Having a strong understanding of the natural effects of habituation and an awareness of not wanting to develop into being thought of a curmudgeon, ...along with being under conviction that my critiquing sometimes comes off as overly aggressive, ...also while in consideration that I could focus more on the saying that, if you don’t have something nice to say don’t say anything at all, …and in light of the level of insult that I was tempted to put out there I believe it best to hold my comments about the origins of this trans-feminist group’s reasoning to separate chickens and smash fertile chicken eggs in protest of them being “raped”.

Some corrections and additions for my post #12 yesterday, about the Consumer Reports article on meat substitutes:

    Number of ingredients:
    Beef - 1
    Veggie - 13, all organic
    Beyond - at least 17
    Impossible - at least 20.

Doesn't that "at least" give one comfort?
Also, as purchased by CR from local stores (they're in CT), the substitutes cost about twice as much as beef.

Yeah, supposedly, the vegan one is loaded with sodium yet contains a lot less protein. I have not tried this thing yet but I saw the Carl Jr.'s version on the menu the other day but decided against it. If you are vegan, then okay, but otherwise, I don't see the appeal.

We now know their feelings about the birds. So that leaves the bees, the flowers, and the trees. Surely they will feel forced to scream “Rape!” even more loudly over these. Headline coming soon: “Get it while you can, before no more honey to be had.” Their birdbrain brilliance is astonishing.

Each year my small group sponsors a chilli cook off at our church.
It is wildly successful and brings in a number of outsiders each year.
My wife’s chili has taken top honors for three times now, judged best chili twice and people’s choice once.

We call it “Vegetarian Chili con Carne”.

I’ve tried vegetarian chili before but it always seems to be missing something.

Well we’ve added the secret ingredient and the people love it!

We’ve even had vegetarians rave over it.
